The other day—I, Nora (yes, it’s me typing this in real time)—introduced Hanna to Jersey Shore for the very first time. A milestone in our relationship, yes. But also? A humbling anthropological moment. Turns out, after some light fieldwork (Instagram DMs and a TikTok rabbit hole), much of Gen Z is disturbingly out of the loop on Jersey Shore. A cultural chasm. A generational schism. Imagine my horror.
Fast forward however many years it’s been since 2009 (time is a construct, etc.) and we find ourselves in the presence of the QUEEN of Jersey herself: Rox—JerZ Queen. And let me tell you, she’s not just the epitome of New Yorker of the Week—she is the archetype. Sure, her home address may technically read “New Jersey,” but the moment she guns it through the tunnel? She transcends. She becomes not just a New Yorker—but the very Platonic ideal of New York. She’s what New York dreams of being when it lies awake at night, haunted by its own inadequacy.
Tune in as we spill the tea (nay, the entire boiling kettle) on Rox’s legendary 15 minutes with Pitbull (dale) and relive the glory of snapping Blackberry pics with the original Jersey Shore cast at Karma. Yes. The Blackberry. Karma. Icons meeting icons.
God damn, we love this woman.
