 The Red Sox (78-63) concluded their 6-game homestand with a disappointing 8-1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians Wednesday night at Fenway Park. Cleveland scored a run in the 1st Inning and opened up the game with a 6-run 2nd against the Sox bullpen. The Sox went 3-3 on their homestand against the Pirates and Guardians. -----Sox at the Dish: The Red Sox managed only 7 hits (1 Extra-Base Hit) in Wednesday night's loss. Nick Sogard knocked in the club's only run with a 2-out Single in the 4th. The team went 1-for-8 with Runners in Scoring Position. Romy Gonzalez collected 2 hits, both Singles, in the loss. Gonzalez has hit safely in 7 in a row and has 5 multi-hit games over his last 6 games. Alex Bregman went 0-for-4 in the finale and went 3-for-26 with 1 Double & 1 RBI on the homestand. -----Bullpen Game: Brennan Bernardino got the final 3 outs in Tuesday's comeback win and served as the opener for the 3rd time this season in Wednesday's finale and he recorded 2 outs in the 1st. Jordan Hicks recorded the final out in the 1st and then ended getting charged for 4 earned runs while not recording a single out in the 2nd. Zack Kelly struck out 4 in working 4 scoreless innings in relief. Dustin May -----Hitting the IL: Red Sox announced the Roman Anthony has been placed on the IL with a left oblique strain and will miss 4-6 weeks. Nick Sogard was brought up from Triple-A Worcester. Anthony was also named as the AL Rookie of the Month for August on Wednesday. -----#'s of the Day:--It's the 6th time this season where the Red Sox failed to pull off a series sweep with a loss in the series finale.--The Red Sox streak of 9 straight games with a Home Run came to an end in the finale.
