  • Utseende & The Garden of Unearthly Delights
    Jun 27 2025

Tune in for an eerie escape into the uncanny. In this episode, I share two chilling tales that blend folklore and dark imagination. First, Utseende by Arnoldo Millan Zubia takes us to a quiet village in Mexico, where something unsettling lurks beneath the surface—haunting the narrator, the hotel where he works, and the town surrounding it. Then, in The Garden of Unearthly Delights by Lena Ng, enter a lush, mysterious garden where beauty and hard work masks danger.

  • Not Birds of a Feather
    Mar 28 2025

Welcome back to Scary Stories Whispered in the Rain!

In this episode I introduce Jennifer Brozek's story Not Birds of a Feather. Jennifer Brozek is an award-winning author of original and media tie-in fiction as well as an editor known for her work in horror, science fiction, and dark fantasy. Among her other credits, she is the author of Never Let Me Sleep and The Last Days of Salton Academy, both of which were nominated for the Bram Stoker Award. Her YA tie-in novels, BattleTech: The Nellus Academy Incident and Shadowrun: Auditions, have both won Scribe Awards. Her editing work has earned her nominations for the British Fantasy Award, the Bram Stoker Award, and the Hugo Award. Her religious horror story Not Birds of a Feather explores what happened to the first bird released from the Ark. I chose this story because I love how it presents an unsettling perspective on one of the most well-known stories in Western civilization, transforming it into horror.
