  • [281] It takes a village (and I'm not talking about raising kids)
    Jun 25 2025

The world feels chaotic lately—there's a buzzing energy that's both exhilarating and exhausting. As summer unfolds with packed calendars and endless activities, many of us find ourselves yearning for space while simultaneously craving connection. This tension reveals a profound truth about human existence: we need our village.

The concept of "it takes a village" extends far beyond raising children. At its core, this phrase speaks to our fundamental human need for community in all aspects of our lives. Whether you're an introvert who cherishes alone time (like myself) or someone who thrives in social settings, having people around you who support, challenge, and understand you is essential for wellbeing.

We've been conditioned to celebrate independence and self-sufficiency, but this mindset can lead to harmful isolation. Your village might look different than traditional communities—it could include close friends you can call at any hour, family members who provide unconditional support, online communities that share your interests, or even spiritual connections that guide your path. The composition of your village is uniquely yours, designed to support your specific needs and goals.

  • [280] Intuition Saved Me—Here’s How to Trust Yours Too
    Jun 16 2025

Could trusting your gut save your life? For me, it literally did.

When my 4-month-old started fussing during a solo road trip, my intuition told me to pull over for a quick stop. Fifteen minutes later, we drove past a horrific accident that had just happened – one that closed the highway for five hours. Had we not made that unplanned stop, the timing would have put us right at that spot when disaster struck.

This experience sparked a deep dive into how intuition works differently for each of us. Through human design, we learn there are seven distinct decision-making authorities – emotional, sacral, splenic, ego, self-projected, mental, and lunar – each guiding us in unique ways. Some feel answers in their gut, others hear whispers that speak only once, while some need to talk things out or wait for emotional clarity.

The challenge isn't just recognizing these signals but trusting them in a world that values logic over intuition. My splenic authority comes as a whisper that speaks once and disappears – something that made me feel crazy until I learned to trust it. From small decisions like starting this podcast to life-saving moments on the highway, these intuitive hits have never steered me wrong.

What is your intuition trying to tell you today? Maybe it's time to start listening.

  • [278] The Evolution of Selfish Retreats PLUS Motherhood & Entrepreneurship
    Jun 2 2025

Nobody tells you that transformation can happen in the blink of an eye. One year, I was walking away from network marketing into uncertainty; the next, I was speaking on stages and hosting my first retreat. Now, I've just completed my fifth Self(ish) Retreat—my first as a new mom—at the stunning Oceanstone Resort in Nova Scotia.

The journey to this retreat was filled with doubt. Could I really pull this off with a four-month-old? Would women get the experience they deserved if I wasn't cooking every meal and planning every minute like I used to? What I discovered exceeded all expectations. With oceanfront views, spa facilities, and catered meals, I could finally be fully present instead of scattered and stressed. We painted with ocean water, explored human design, and created space for both transformation and rest.

During our final breathwork session, something unexpected happened. When asked to visualize the future, instead of seeing bigger stages or business growth as I always had, I pictured myself and my husband, gray-haired, watching our son graduate. It was the first time my vision centered on family instead of business—a profound shift that left me emotional and reflective.

What made this retreat possible was community—the participants who loved on my baby, my husband who supported my dreams, and everyone who helped behind the scenes. This isn't the Jessica show; it's collaboration at its finest.

  • [277] Living life as an experiment
    May 20 2025

Have you ever looked back at a version of yourself from five years ago and barely recognized that person? Welcome to the beautiful evolution of becoming.

When I placed the word "experiment" on my vision board before entering motherhood, I had no idea how powerfully it would reshape my approach to life. Rather than clinging to rigid expectations or perfect outcomes, I've discovered the freedom that comes from approaching each day with curiosity, openness, and a willingness to gather data, adjust approaches, and continuously adapt.

Join me for this heartfelt exploration of living experimentally. Your future self will thank you for approaching this chapter not just with survival in mind, but with curiosity, courage, and a playfulness that transforms even the most challenging seasons into adventures worth having.

  • [274] The Heart vs. Head Battle: Finding Your Selfish Confidence
    Apr 21 2025

What if the limits you feel most constrained by are actually self-imposed? What if following your heart—even when your logical mind resists—is the key to unlocking your truest confidence?

Recording with my 12-week-old baby sleeping on my chest, I found myself questioning whether I could successfully multitask motherhood and podcasting. This small moment perfectly mirrors the larger struggle many of us face: the battle between heart and head, between intuition and logic, between what feels right and what society tells us is possible.

Society feeds us constant messaging about what we can and cannot do, especially as women and mothers. We're told to stay small, to choose between career and family, to wait until the "right time" to pursue our dreams. But what if we started challenging these narratives? What if we began taking micro-steps toward what lights us up, even when it feels uncertain or scary?

When we follow what feels authentically right—whether that's planning an international retreat with a newborn at home, changing careers, or simply cooking tacos for dinner—we often discover our limitations were primarily self-created. The confidence to move beyond these barriers doesn't come from eliminating doubt, but from acknowledging it and moving forward anyway.

Share this episode with someone who needs permission to follow their heart, and let me know how you're breaking through your self-imposed limitations. The matriarchy is coming—and it begins with each of us having the courage to trust ourselves.
