  • SMART Goals
    Jan 6 2020
As it is the start of a new year & a new decade many individuals, myself included, set New Years resolutions or goals that we hope to achieve in the new year. While we all certainly have the intention for seeing these goals to fulfillment we often loose focus on our goals and before we know we it abandon them all together. So today I want to talk about “smart” goals. https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy (Support the show) (https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy) Support this podcast

  • 7 Tips On Finding The Perfect Therapist
    Jan 12 2020
This month I want to focus on therapeutic expectations and how to set realistic goals.  That all starts with finding the perfect therapist for you.  Don’t be afraid to shop around for the perfect fit.  A therapist is completely different than any other health provider you will see.  You may see a doctor or dentist for routine checkups and not really care if you don’t see them again on your next visit.  But a therapist is different.  This is someone who you are going to be vulnerable with and share intimate details about yourself that you may not have ever shared before.  It is important to be comfortable and confident with your therapist.  I want to share with you seven tips on choosing the perfect therapist for you. https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy (Support the show) (https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy) Support this podcast

  • How Long Should You Go To Therapy?
    Jan 19 2020
Continuing this month’s theme I want to talk about the length of time therapy takes.  Therapy is a process, an active process between you and your therapist.  It is not a quick fix or a cure all.  As everyone and every situation is different, determining the length of therapy is a tough question, there is no one right answer.  The therapeutic journey depends on several factors including the reasons that brought you to therapy, the type of therapy the therapist is using, and your willingness to actively work with your therapist in achieving your therapeutic goal among other factors.  All of these  need to be considered and talked about during the initial session.  If  nothing else, that first session usually ends with some type of game plan laid out for you with a rough draft of what the process will look like. https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy (Support the show) (https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy) Support this podcast

  • What Does Progress In Therapy Look Like?
    Jan 27 2020
I want to talk about what progress looks like in therapy.  Keep in mind that your personal progress can look completely different than what your progress looks like for your therapist.  For me, progress simply means not staying stagnant.  Regardless if that mens we’ve improved by leaps and bounds or we’ve moved slowly and sluggishly.  All movement is after all, still movement. https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy (Support the show) (https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy) Support this podcast

  • Establishing Healthy And Appropriate Boundaries
    Feb 2 2020
This month I want to discuss boundaries.  This episode is the first 2 part episode we’ve done on the podcast.  This weeks episode we’ll be discussing healthy & appropriate boundaries for ourselves and next week we’ll be discussing healthy & appropriate boundaries in committed relationships! Many times when we think of boundaries we think of very rigid individuals and people who have no fun.  The surprising thing is that it’s the exact opposite!  https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy (Support the show) (https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy) Support this podcast

  • Healthy And Appropriate Boundaries In Committed Relationships
    Feb 9 2020
This episode is the second part of last weeks conversation.  So, continuing this months theme on boundaries and following up on last weeks discussion, we’ll be talking about healthy and appropriate boundaries inside of committed relationships.  While many of last weeks tips apply to committed relationships, there are other avenues that are specific to committed relationships.  We will be discussing I-statements, sex, me time, and we time. https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy (Support the show) (https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy) Support this podcast

  • Maintaining Healthy And Appropriate Boundaries
    Feb 16 2020
Many times when we set boundaries, we have every intention on keeping maintaining those boundaries and often do for many weeks or months, but slowly over time we begin to let those boundaries fade.  Many times this is due to pressure from others for keeping the boundary for so long.  “Just this once” or “you can slide a little bit” are often things people will say to try and convince us that letting our boundaries slide is the exception and not the rule; but in actuality many people view this as the opening they need to make sure that our boundaries crumble.  This week we discuss how to maintain those boundaries so we stay out of resentment. https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy (Support the show) (https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy) Support this podcast

  • What To Do When Boundaries Fail
    Feb 23 2020
This week we discuss what happens when boundaries fail and how to reestablish them in a guilt and shame free way, and showing confidence in doing so.  Once we realize that our boundaries have failed, we should not just 'let it go' but rather we need to do everything in our power to re-establish those boundaries and improve our awareness, that way we have a better game plan in case we find ourselves in a similar situation again.  https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy (Support the show) (https://www.patreon.com/StuffYouShouldKnowAboutTherapy) Support this podcast
