  • Monday Motivation #25 | Crafting a Rule of Life by Alecia Doty
    May 5 2025

Send me a one-way text about this episode! I'll give you a shout out or answer your question on a future episode.

Today, we are wrapping up our series on Rhythms & Routines with a piece written by former guest, Alecia Doty. Based on the Doty Family Plan she and her husband created, Alecia regularly creates a personal mission plan, or Rule of Life, informed the Word of God, to help her set and keep personal priorities in order.

In this article, Alecia explains what a Rule of Life is and gives some pointers on how to create one. I follow up with some examples from a past rule of life plan that she shared with AoH readers.

You can access Alecia's full example and a blank version for your plan at theartofhomepodcast.com/ruleoflife

We are gearing up for the premier of our 4th and final Pillars of Homemaking Deep Dive, Community later this season. So this week I am re-publishing the first three Pillars of Homemaking Deep Dive episodes so you can refresh your memory, or listen for the first time. IN THIS EPISODE:

    • Brief review of the 4 Pillars of Homemaking
    • What are rhythms and routines? How do they differ and some examples of each.
    • Motivations (or the why) for establishing rhythms and routines, contrasting the world’s ideas vs what God has to say about our why.
    • 4 rhythms of christian living; worship, rest, work and play—what those might look like and how we can use homemaking to help and not hinder these rhythms.

So this week I am re-publishing the first three Pillars of Homemaking Deep Dive episodes so you can refresh your memory, or listen for the first time. This episode on the first pillar, Identity, originally aired April 5th, 2023.

I am diving into the first pillar of homemaking, Identity, with my good friend, author, speaker and podcaster, Susan Macias. This deep dive is the first in a series on Four Pillars of Homemaking: Identity, Values & Priorities, Rhythms & Routines, and Community. We are going to contrast what God has to say about identity with what the world has to say about where to find your identity. Then we will look at some common identity thieves—things homemakers may be tempted to look to for identity and how to avoid falling into those traps.

  • Monday Motivation #24 | Rhythms of Play for the Homemaker
    Apr 28 2025

Send me a one-way text about this episode! I'll give you a shout out or answer your question on a future episode.

As we prepare for the upcoming deep dive on the 4th Pillar of Homemaking, Community, we have been revisiting the other pillars; Identity, Values, and Rhythms.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve looked at rhythms of rest, worship and work.

Today we turn our attention to a rhythm that may surprise you….we will talk about the need for rhythms of play.

We will look at examples of play in God’s creation and in His Word to see what we can learn about the value of play. Then I will give you some practical suggestions for implementing regular rhythms of play into your home life.

    NOTES & LINKS

    Sources & Scripture Mentioned:

    • Psalm 96:1-12, The Message Translation

    Questions to Consider:

    1. Do you regularly enjoy God's presence, blessings and creation through lighthearted play? If yes, how?
    2. Which of the above suggestions would you like to explore as a means of practicing play? How will you implement it into your weekly rhythm?
