How many mothers feel seen? How much of motherhood is seen? Acknowledged? The work mothers do exists in invisibility. From lack of maternity leave to lack of appropriate, affordable childcare, we know the work, the labor, of mothers is ignored into obscurity. The depths of the invisibility of mothers is a direct expression of our inability to hold the archetype of the Great Mother. We don't value mothers and we don't value The Mother. Seems inconsequential, perhaps, or of a small concern compared to, say, climate change, but it's actually a root of the problem. Until Mother and mothers are restored to their proper place of visibility and prominence, none of us will be free, fertile, alive, liberated.
