Unimaginable: Child Abuse Crisis Exposed in Crisis Storm Podcast Ep 11

  • Résumé

  • We reveal the hidden truth about the crisis of child abuse in this 11th Episode, of The Crisis Storm Podcast and Web-Series, Tara Ettinger and Dr. Shelly Dean talk with us about the unseen crisis of child abuse affecting one in three children in our communities.

Tara Ettinger (info@bigbearcyac.ca) holds a BSW and MEd in Counselling Psychology, and is currently a PhD candidate, having received the National SSHRC Doctoral Award. A counselling therapist for over 20 years, Tara has spent many years working with children, youth, and families in trauma. Her training by Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc in Aboriginal Group Conferencing and Restorative Justice led to facilitating Healing Circles and supporting Residential School Survivors. Tara chaired and coordinated a Network to decrease youth violence and gang activity as part of a BC Provincial strategy. She championed and coordinated the development of Big Bear Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) and is now the ED there.

Dr. Shelly Dean’s area of concentration includes working for victims of all ages who have experienced violence or other traumatic events, and for those who have chosen to use violence to harm others. Shelly works on behalf of children and their families to complete a wide variety of reports required in Family Law disputes. She works for organizations and professionals to provide training in Response-Based Practice, and for Practice Support, and consulting in the areas of supervision, organizational or program evaluation. Shelly orients her family therapy practice around a relatively small group of children and families. They will never be, or made to feel like “just a number”, and will receive her undivided attention. Shelly has been actively involved in the ongoing development of working with children and youth from a Response-Based perspective, and understanding how young people respond to and resist experiences of violence. Shelly (admin@rbpinterior.com) is a licensed Family Therapist, an author, and a graduate of the Doctoral Program at the TAOS Institute.
