Your past does not define your future. In this episode of The Your Level Fitness Podcast, I’m talking about why that is true for your health and fitness journey, especially if you’ve spent decades on the diet rollercoaster. So many of us have been dieting or thinking about changing our bodies since we were teenagers, caught in the loop of starting programs, stopping, and feeling like we’re never quite enough. It’s time to break free from that cycle.
Instead of jumping into plans that tell you exactly what to do, I want you to focus on building a foundation rooted in your preferences. Start with the foods you enjoy, and the exercises you’re willing and able to do, and create a baseline that’s yours. From there, you can try new tools and tactics, but now they’ll be grounded in what fits you rather than feeling forced.
This shift helps you connect what you love with what you’re trying to achieve, which is how you build a forever active lifestyle. We also talk about the dangerous emphasis on “the finish line,” like a goal weight or body comp, and how that expectation rarely brings the lasting happiness or calm you’re hoping for. Instead, the real unlock is learning to live in maintenance by creating a life you genuinely enjoy.
In this episode, I challenge you to think about whether you’d trade three years of focused effort to set yourself up for decades of freedom and comfort in your own skin. Because living an inside/out life is not about quick fixes. It’s about taking back control, connecting with yourself, and choosing actions that align with who you are and how you want to live.
If part of you finds comfort in always starting over, ask yourself if that’s how you truly want to spend the rest of your life. It’s never too late to build your foundation and discover what truly works for you.
