The Marvelous Land of Oz is book two in the Oz series by L. Frank Baum. In this story, we meet a young boy named Tip. His guardian Mombi is a wicked witch and Tip is always met with anger and abuse. One day Tip has had enough and seeks revenge on the witch, building a wooden man with a pumpkin for a head, hoping to frighten Mombi. His plan backfires and while not fooled, Mombi demonstrates her own power by bringing the aptly named Jack Pumpkinhead to life. Not yet done with her abuse, Mombi informs Tip she will turn him into a stone statue as punishment for his deceit.

Stories of Santa Claus is a 1902 children’s book. Santa Claus, as a baby, is found in the Forest of Burzee by Ak, the Master Woodsman of the World (a supreme immortal), and placed in the care of the lioness Shiegra; but thereupon adopted by the Wood Nymph, Necile. Ich schäme mich nicht einzugestehen, dass ich, der es schrieb, auch ein Kind bin; denn so weit ich mich zurückerinnern kann, bekam ich immer große Augen bei erstaunlichen Erzählungen, und mein Herz ist noch daran gewöhnt, heftig zu klopfen, wenn ich von unmöglichen Abenteuern lese. Es ist die Natur der Kinder, Realitäten zu verachten, die sich allzu rasch mit fortschreitenden Jahren in ihr Leben drängen. Kindheit ist die Zeit für Märchen, für Träume, für Spaß.

L. Frank Baums "Dot and Tot of Merryland" erschien 1901, ein Jahr nach "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", und Baum und sein Illustrator W. W. Denslow erhofften sich von dem neuen Buch einen ähnlichen Erfolg. Der blieb aber zu ihrer Enttäuschung aus; das Buch geriet neben den "Oz"-Geschichten nahezu in Vergessenheit. 1994 hat es der New Yorker Verlag The Emerald City Press in seiner Reihe "Books of Wonder" neu aufgelegt (mit Bildern von Donald Abbott).

"Dorothy und der Zauberer in Oz" ist ein Kinderbuch des US-amerikanischen Schriftstellers Lyman Frank Baum. Die Erzählung erschien 1908 unter dem Originaltitel "Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz" mit Illustrationen von John R. Neill. Dabei handelt es sich um den vierten Band des Oz-Zyklus, der in den USA zu den beliebtesten Kinderbüchern gehört und zum Teil auch in deutscher Sprache verlegt wurde. Dorothy kommt mit dem Zug und ihrer Katze Eureka nach Hugson in Kalifornien, wo sie Onkel Bill Hugson besuchen will, bei dem sich gerade Onkel Henry aufhält.

Folklore, Legenden, Mythen und Märchen sind der Kindheit durch die Zeiten gefolgt, denn jedes normale Kind hat eine gesunde und instinktive Liebe zu phantastischen, erstaunlichen und offenkundig unwirklichen Geschichten. Grimms und Andersens geflügelte Elfen haben kindlichen Herzen mehr Glücksgefühle beschert als alle anderen menschlichen Hervorbringungen. Doch das alte Märchen, das Generationen gedient hat, wird jetzt wohl als "historisch" in der Kinderbibliothek geführt.
