After finally finding out who did it, the dying criminal confesses that the loot had been hidden “in the old tower.” The tower is searched in vain, but it remained for the Hardy boys to make an astonishing discovery that cleared up the mystery.

Frank and Joe Hardy, sons of the world renowned detective Fenton Hardy, investigate a mysterious old house high on the cliffs above Barmet Bay when they are frightened off by a scream. During a storm they seek refuge in the house, only to return to their motorcycles' now empty tool boxes! The boys return to the apparently haunted house when they make a connection between the place and a smuggling case their father is working on. Their dad has been hired by a pharmaceutical firm to find missing drug shipments and calls on the boys to help. He disappears at one point and his sons team up to rescue him from whatever happened. They made an extremely brave rescue of their dad from unscrupulous smugglers.

Chet and Biff, friends of Frank and Joe Hardy, depart for a long-planned boating excursion, but mysteriously disappear in a storm. The Hardy Boys fear the worst when they can find nothing but a small amount of wreckage along the course Chet and Biff were to follow. Frank and Joe are able to trace the gang to Blacksnake Island, but will they be able to free their friends?

Chet and Biff, chums of Frank and Joe Hardy, intend to take a pleasure trip down the coast in Biff’s new boat. They start during an ominous storm and then disappear. Mr. Hardy leaves to capture a dangerous criminal he has been tracking. Frank and Joe set out to find Chet and Biff over the great objections of their visiting Aunt Gertrude. When Frank and Joe finally find them, they are all captured. The Hardy Boys use their investigation skills and lots of courage in dangerous situations to find and rescue Chet and Biff—the missing chums.

Fenton Hardy requests his sons, Frank and Joe, to help him solve a case of stolen gold in Montana. The gang who stole the gold attempts to thwart their train ride from their home in Bayport on Barmet Bay on the Atlantic coast to Lucky Bottom, Montana. After finally arriving, the boys face more trouble with the gang as well as a mine shaft cave-in, a Rocky Mountain Blizzard, a pack of wolves, and finally Black Pepper, the leader of the gang. On top of all that, the boys needed to discover who was the first thief and who are the rightful owners of the gold.

The Hardy boys looked at one another regretfully. They had just received a letter from their father, Fenton Hardy, an internationally famous detective, who had been called West but a fortnight previous on a mysterious mission. The letter gave the boys their first inkling of the nature of the case that had summoned their father from Bayport, on the Atlantic coast, to the mining country of Montana.

They are followed, tricked, and delayed, but ultimately get to Montana where they are attacked by wolves in abandoned mines, and finally begin Hunting for Hidden Gold!

While their father, Fenton Hardy, is in Montana working on a case of stolen gold, the Hardy Boys and their friends meet Jadbury Wilson, a former gold prospector. Wilson relates his tale of how Bart Dawson, a trusted member of his party, disappeared with four bags of hard-won gold during a gunfight. Frank and Joe are thrilled to receive a telegram from their father, requesting that they join him in Montana immediately to assist on the gold case. But to their surprise, Fenton Hardy is working for Bart Dawson, the same man whom Jadbury Wilson has accused of having stolen his gold.
