In 2013, South African businessman Daniel Janse van Rensburg set off to the West African country to finalise a legitimate airline contract with a local politician. Within days, Daniel was arrested by the local Rapid Intervention Force and detained without trial in the island’s infamous ‘Guantanamo’ cells, and was later taken to Black Beach. This is his remarkable story of survival over nearly two years, made possible by his unwavering faith and the humanity of a few fellow inmates. In this thrilling first-person narrative, Daniel relives his ordeal.

Rosemary Venter was born in the Transvaal in 1928. This is a long series of three books, covering a period of 72 years. My mother who produced the original manuscript is now over 95 years old. The story is, among other things, an attempt to portray the social history of the times. She believed it important that records were kept of those days, where economic and political change was rapid and unpredictable. This was her contribution to that history.

Disequilibrium tells the story of the creation of the Quirimbas National Park and the author's simultaneous descent into the uncontrolled cycles of mania and depression that characterize bipolar disorder and threaten the lives and wellbeing of those affected. The author's struggles to establish the park in the face of widespread poaching and appalling human poverty parallel his painstaking efforts to regain both ‘a functional approximation of sanity’ and then the love and respect of his wife and family. There Is No Me Without You is the story of Haregewoin Tefarra, a middle-aged Ethiopian woman of modest means whose home has become a refuge for hundreds of children orphaned by AIDS. It is a story as much about the power of the bond between children and parents as about the epidemic that every year leaves millions of children, mostly healthy themselves, without family.

The memoir "From a small village, a journey through Africa into the world" reads like a gripping adventure novel. Alicja's experiences are amazing and adventurous - a girl from a small village who first becomes involved with a Nigerian man then copes well on her own in a distant, somewhat wild country. Her memories are also a large piece of Polish history and life in the Polish People's Republic, as well as the history of Nigeria. The cultural differences between our countries described are fascinating, as well as how the world has changed.
