In the distance they can hear the ominous rumble of cannon fire in what has to be a major battle. A British invasion force had sailed up the Saint Lawrence and marched south.

It was June 1777, the beginning of the third year of the American War for Independence, in Morristown, New Jersey. Lieutenant Hugh Hampton met the lovely wife of a local merchant at the door to a small barn behind a vacant house. Shortly afterward, Tim Euston (age 17) came into the barn with his violin to practice a tune requested by the wife of Colonel Olney (a historical character).

George Washington and King George III of Britain had a great deal in common - aside from sharing the same first name. Both loved to hunt and farm, both towered above most other men of their day, and both were dedicated husbands and fathers. Yet despite their similarities, they were destined to become bitter enemies. As the Revolutionary War erupted, people on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean formed very different opinions.
