Nella narrativa quioroghiana tutto riconduce al confronto tra uomo e natura in un parallelo che richiama la dualità Uomo-Destino della cultura classica. Le descrizioni naturalistiche, minuziose e precise, evidenziano una forte conflittualità nella relazione e la natura ostile, cieca, ma giusta è quasi sempre vincitrice sull'uomo. La morte del contadino o del pescatore a causa di un qualche animale selvaggio, che sia un serpente velenoso, un coccodrillo o un parassita del sangue, sono sempre parte di un gioco letale in cui l'uomo cerca di sopraffare la natura.

"El retrato del Sr. W. H." es una historia escrita por Oscar Wilde, publicada por primera vez en la revista Blackwood's Magazine en 1889. Fue posteriormente añadida a la colección "El crimen de lord Arthur Savile y otras historias".
