People seem to think certain traits are ingrained in you from the moment you're born. But what if some things aren't so black and white?

Recent reports show that women make up the fastest-growing population within the United States’ criminal justice system. And yet, despite necessary conversations about incarceration and prison abolition, their stories of abuse, neglect, poverty, and family separation often go untold. Now, through immersive storytelling and expert analysis of women’s lives after prison, anthropologist Jorja Leap explores their journeys into, through, and beyond the jail cell.

Wells. Justice learns how each leader was a champion for advancing justice and improving the world, and she dreams of becoming a change maker, too.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in 1869 in British-occupied India. Though he studied law in London and spent his early adulthood in South Africa, he remained devoted to his homeland and spent the later part of his life working to make India an independent nation. Calling for non-violent civil disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights around the world. Gandhi is recognized internationally as a symbol of hope, peace, and freedom.

Georgia Gilmore was cooking when she heard the news Mrs. Rosa Parks had been arrested - pulled off a city bus and thrown in jail all because she wouldn't let a White man take her seat. To protest, the radio urged everyone to stay off city buses for one day: December 5, 1955. Throughout the boycott - at Holt Street Baptist Church meetings led by a young minister named Martin Luther King Jr. - and throughout the struggle for justice, Georgia served up her mouth-watering fried chicken, her spicy collard greens, and her sweet potato pie.

Akbar was one of the most admired and also one of the most feared emperors of India. He patronized art and promoted religious harmony due to which he is called "Akbar the Great". In his court was present one of the wisest men of his time - Birbal. The interactions between Akbar and Birbal are the stuff of legend and folklore due to the interesting problems and situations that Akbar posed and the witty solutions and answers that Birbal gave.

Sometimes it’s hard to stay positive: when you live in an old school bus instead of a normal house; when you have mostly just bread and ketchup to eat; and especially when you have to go to a new school where all the other kids already have friends. But the sweet and creative boy in this story discovers that he can do things he never thought possible, by using the skills his parents have taught him: imagining . . . and trying . . . and finding a way to look on the bright side. This honest, accessible, and compassionate story is based on the author’s own childhood.

Fred Korematsu liked listening to music on the radio, playing tennis, and hanging around with his friends - just like lots of other Americans. But everything changed when the United States went to war with Japan in 1941 and the government forced all people of Japanese ancestry to leave their homes on the West Coast and move to distant prison camps. This included Fred, whose parents had immigrated to the United States from Japan many years before. But Fred refused to go.

This story is a gem representing the delightful stories from the Indian subcontinent which capture the simple essence of everyday life in rural/urban India. The simple pleasures of life indicate a time gone by, before the advent of cellphones and Facebook, a time which almost stood still, a time where children could revel in the rain, make paper boats and race them down a drain, play marbles, and generally pass time. The once idyllic life almost seems too slow and bear and hence is fascinating to watch unfurl as we listen to the story.
