Som voksen vendte han tilbage til Grønland, men denne gang i en ny rolle som polarforsker. Via sine mange bøger og foredrag om oplevelserne i Grønland og andre polaregne vandt Knud Rasmussen en helt særlig plads i kulturhistorien og har i dag status som en legendarisk opdagelsesrejsende.
