Native Ghost

More than a year has passed since shaman John Running Deer and his equally gifted granddaughter, Evelyn Sherman, battled Brigindo and Teutates’ other three siblings in Cherokee, North Carolina. At the time, John and Evelyn prayed this would be it for dealing with violent ancient entities that supersede the normal realm of ghosts and other mischievous spirits. They naively equated the Hobbs family’s return to peaceful lives in Colorado as the end of their own misadventures with the supernatural. They couldn’t have been more wrong.

Epidemic and deprivation were widespread among Native American tribes in the 19th century. The Ghost Dance asserted that Native Americans were God's chosen people, attempting to restore Native American pride, dignity, power, and autonomy.

Wovoka (1867-1932), the Ghost Dance Prophet, was a member of the Walker River band of Paiutes in Western Nevada. The Walker River Reservation was established in 1859, and was Wokova’s home off and on for years. Wovoka was also known as Jack Wilson, a name he acquired while he was, for some years, employed on the David Wilson family ranch in the Mason Valley.
