Amos était berger et homme de la terre. Sa connaissance de la vie agricole transparaît à plusieurs reprises dans sa manière de s'exprimer. Selon ses propres indications, Amos prophétisa aux jours des rois Ozias de Juda (791-740 av. J.-C.) et Jéroboam II d'Israël (793-753 av. J.-C.).

"Le Siracide", appelé aussi "l'Ecclésiastique" ou encore "La Sagesse de Ben Sira", est l'un des livres de l'Ancien Testament écrit vers 200 av. J.-C. "Le Siracide" tient son nom de son auteur, Jésus Ben Sira. L'ouvrage est un mélange de deux genres littéraires : tantôt des "proverbes", tantôt des développements structurés qui proposent des réflexions sur un sujet. Il s'agit toujours de la "Sagesse", représentée comme une personnification de la Sagesse divine.

There has always been a true and Holy Spirit interpretation of the word of God. This interpretation will ring true throughout history unchanged, and be verified by it. This is where we must start when looking for the best interpretation of the apocalyptic portions of the scripture. We must look in history for that which stands the test of time; that which agrees with the word of God and that history has proven to be true.
