Niels Aage Barfoeds roman fortæller den sande historie om den danske pietist og salmedigter Hans Adolf Brorson (1694-1764), der var biskop i Ribe fra 1741-1764. Vi hører om hans studier i København, der fejlede på grund af overanstrengelse og sygdom, og hvordan han kom til hægterne igen i de fredelige omgivelser hos sin bror Niels, der var sognepræst i Bedsted. Bogen fortæller om Hans Adolf Brorsons åndelige vækkelse og vejen til den prestigiøse position som biskop i Ribe.

In 1933, Johann Trollmann won Germany's light-heavyweight boxing title. The Nazis would not accept him as the winner because he was Sinto. Many Sinti and Roma (or "Gypsies") had long been involved in the sport, but Nazi ideology demanded that only Aryans excel as fighters. Trollmann used his visibility in the ring for shocking and aggressive protest, turning boxing into politically charged performance art. He fought for his country, and against its prejudice.

Niels Aage Barfoeds biografiske roman "Verden er et flyvesand" fortæller om den danske digter Ambrosius Stubs (1705-1758) liv og værker. Hvor Ambrosius Stubs digte var smukke, lette og yndefulde, var hans liv og opførsel det stik modsatte. Jo ældre han blev, des mere gik han op i limningen af druk, personlige problemer og sorg over omverdenens manglende anerkendelse af hans digte, som efter hans død vandt stor popularitet.
