"Le Lévitique" est le troisième des cinq livres de la Torah (Pentateuque). Il doit son nom au terme "lévite", prêtre hébreu issu de la tribu de Lévi. Il parle des devoirs sacerdotaux en Israël. Il met l'accent sur la sainteté de Dieu et le code selon lequel son peuple pouvait vivre pour devenir saint. Son but est d'enseigner les préceptes moraux et les rituels religieux de la loi de Moïse. Le livre comprend 27 chapitres, qui relatent l'exposé à Moïse de lois et de rites. Le livre a vraisemblablement pris forme au ve siècle av. J.-C., durant l'époque perse.

On y trouve notamment, reprises de la philosophie grecque, les quatre vertus cardinales : "Aime-t-on la rectitude ? Les vertus sont les fruits de ses travaux, car elle enseigne tempérance et prudence, justice et force."

"Le livre de Judith" est un livre deutérocanonique de la Bible. Il relate comment la belle et jeune veuve Judith écarte la menace d'une invasion assyrienne en décapitant le général ennemi Holopherne, et restaure du même coup la foi du peuple juif en la puissance salvatrice de son Dieu.
