「無頼派」「新戯作派」の破滅型作家を代表する昭和初期の小説家、太宰治の後期短編。初出は「日本小説」［1948（昭和23）年］。実体験を基にした随筆的作品。年寄りの文学者に悪口を言われ悔しがる主人公・太宰は、浮浪者と一緒に写っている写真を撮りたいという記者の要望になぜ自分を選ぶのかと悩むが、後日、その写真を見た太宰の妻は太宰を浮浪者と見間違えるという物語で、細部などには晩年の太宰の心情が見られるとも言われている。
