Weak characters and plot - Fabulous Sex
Compared to Amanda Quick and Susan Elizabeth Peters whose characters and plots are fantastic this authors are very weak and made even weaker by the fact that the stories are twice as long. On the other hand Ms. Laurens knows how to write great sex scenes which begin slowly and grow in intensity with each encounter. For this reason alone I plan to try another of her books and hope that the next plot and the dialogue has greater depth and complexity.

loved this book
I must say that I loved this book, the romance is good and the mistory is enough to keep your mind going on who the spy is. I love the spunk of the hero wen, If you enjoy historical mystery you will like this one, you will not be disappointed at all. this is in a series of books thats fun and while doing laundry you can zone out to another time and place and still get things done, I hope that you enjoy

Good one
I liked this book. I continued to look forward to finding out "what happened" as I read through it. I don't know if anyone else noticed that the narrator pronounces the word "grimace" with a long "a". It really rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed that the word must have appeared at least 50 times in the book and I noticed each of the 50 times that she mispronounced it. And it wasn't because she's British because other British narrators pronounce it with a short "a". I tolerated the book anyway because of the good story.

never ending, terrible story
this book sounds interesting from the description, but it just goes on and on and on. the storyline is just a backdrop to the endless sex scenes. i got to the half way point and turned it off. i don't care how it ends, but i know there is going to be a lot of sex before it does.

Boring and contrived
Worse than even your average romance novel... the character's motivations seem contrived and implausible. And there's pretty much no heat between the main characters. I knew that I couldn't finish listening when I thought, "Oh my god--not another sex scene! Didn't they just do that?"

Great book in a fine series
Most of Stephanie Laurens' books are well worth the time and do hold one's interest. The Bastion Club series is an exceptional collection of books about men who spied for England until after Waterloo and now must take their place among the nobility, but on their terms.
Torrington meets a woman no one knows is impoverished over a corpse. Her secrets include some younger brothers, her marital status, and aforesaid financials, as she is in hopes of helping her younger sister to marry a man she could love and to ease the financial burden.
The characters grab your interest, and the mysteries of murder and treasonous sabotage are well done and keep the pages turning. I have reread it several times. My paperback copies kept wandering away, so I got the audio.
Jill Tanner does very well with the different characters and emotions.

Second of the Bastion Club spies to fall in love.
As I've said before, these are long stories but, if you can keep listening, then they are an enjoyable, passionate, and entertaining romance novels.
Worth the credit? S.L. fans will say Yes.

Far Too Long
Laurens' books tend to go on and on and on, and this one is no different. In fact, I think the narration makes it even worse. Jill Tanner isn't a bad narrator, I just don't like her style. The best adjective I can think of for it is "cumbersome." She has a way of speaking that makes me want to sleep, or at least pry the words out of her. At one point I thought I had to be at least halfway through the first part of the download. A quick glance at my iPod showed that I still had five hours to go...FIVE!! And that didn't include any of the second part. Even long, steamy, frequent sex scenes couldn't help this listen. I gave up before finishing the first part and mourned the loss of a perfectly good credit.

LOVE IT!
I loved this book. It kept you guessing for the most part and the pace wasn't too fast wasn't too slow. The love story was nice and the plot kept along with it.
