Publisher's Summary

Ilea likes punching things. And eating.

Unfortunately, there aren’t too many career options for hungry brawlers. Instead, the plan is to quit her crappy fast-food job, go to college, and become a fully functioning member of society. Essentially—a fate worse than death.

So maybe it's lucky that she wakes up one day in a strange world where a bunch of fantasy monsters are trying to kill her?

On the bright side, "killing those monsters right back" is now a viable career path! For she soon discovers her new home runs on a set of game-like rules that will allow her to punch things harder than in her wildest dreams. Well, maybe not her wildest dreams, but it’s close.

With no quest to follow, no guide to show her the way, and no real desire to be a Hero—Ilea embarks on a journey to discover a world full of magic. Magic she can use to fight even bigger monsters.

She’s struggling to survive, has no idea what will happen next, and is loving every minute of it. Except, and sometimes also, when she’s poisoned and/or has set herself on fire. It’s complicated.

Listen to the story that took Royal Road by storm with more than 60 million views and counting.

Fantastic.

Great plot, with fantastic characters and developmen. Morality wise its grey which is much better than "good vs evil" tropes, cant wait for book 2.

Wow, the narrator has an incredible range.

First of all, this is a great book. Really enjoyed it. The quality of the writing is above some of the other LitRPG’s I’ve recently read, some of which are highly rated. I’m excited to start book 2 asap.

The narrator is amazing. I’m very picky about narration and IMHO most narrators make terrible choices with voices of the opposite sex. This one doesn’t. You have to assume that doing voices very different from their own will lead a narrator to certain creative choices/compromises, how well they can execute on this choice is what separates a good narrator from a great one. This is a great narrator. I haven’t hear any of her work before now, based on other reviews it seems she is well known for quality work. I’m happy to note those weren’t empty claims or based on quirky personal tastes by other listeners. I’ll be looking for more of her work.

Great start to this series.

Reminds me of a Japanese Isekai anime

Not the top echelon of writing. However, better than amateur writers such as the author of the hunger games. If you enjoy following the journey it's a great series. If you nit-pick every detail this may not be the book for you. If you read the cradle book series, you'll likely enjoy this too. Lots of fun events, some comedic moments, the dungeons are pretty cool, and the protagonist has a will of titanium. Oh also, the evolution/upgrade descriptions were really cool!

Given that I only had two major issues with the storyline. The author did a pretty good job of everything else. But I am also being less critical as I don't think this series was meant to rival series such as The War of the Spider Queen (or similar) which would absolutely trump this series.

Couple flaws in book 1:
- The protagonist goes solo at the beginning for a long time. Gets a bit boring when there's no other characters being developed. A strange choice. But very forgivable given that overall I'm enjoying the series.
- Some traumatic issues regarding the nature of the protagonists origin gets explained away in an unconvincing manner. I think never getting upset about that really makes the protagonist seem void of human feelings. The story could have touched on the protagonist struggling to find someone to confide and trust in; to tell her story. I think doing-so would have made the story more touching. For awhile she's happy go-lucky with this newfound freedom. But in-reality those feelings would have eventually ended resulting in some sort of a mental breakdown. It's not like the plot completely avoids the issue, but only mentions it in brief and moves on which isn't good enough imo.
- How come the protagonist never questions the voice in her head and it's weird god/omnipotent-like behaviour? I guess this is a LitRPG and probably not something the reader is supposed to question.

A Great story, with few flaws

The novel is lighthearted without letting that get in the way of Character progression, however their are some growing pains from the transition into audio format, level gains, Dings, and stat blocks are spaced well but Large when they occur.

An amazing performance

This is arguably one of the best lit rpg's out there. Performance by the narrator was amazing.

The Heroine I've been waiting for

Incredibly surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
The main character is so fun and just a breath of fresh air compared to other protagonists.
The world is cool too Not entirely unique as far as litrpg fantasy lands go but it has enough of its own twist to be interesting and add positively to the story.
Hoping for a continuation of this so I can see where this goes more.

Exciting fantasy adventure

The story is exciting and fun, Ilea is a very fun and relatable protagonist and her story is very enjoyable. The narrator did a very good job as well, I found she did a very good job bringing the characters to life.
