The Worst of You
Publisher's Summary
Brace yourself for the latest gripping thriller from Sarah Richards, the bestselling author behind Audible hits China White and Born Winners. The Worst of You is a twisted tale full of mysteries that only grow more intense with each thrilling reveal, keeping you guessing until the shocking conclusion. Masterfully narrated by Sarah Desjardins (Yellowjackets), this immersive audiobook will have you captivated from start to finish.
In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Surprisingly good!
I really enjoyed this book. Good story with a lot of twists and turns. It’s not a must read but it is entertaining.

a waste of time, though it had potential.
too many unlikely plots, unrealistic exaggerations. became more and more entangled to the point of impossibility.

Someone skipped the editing review
The story was good. Unfortunately, nearly every chapter has at least one point where words are repeated due to poor sound editing. In one of the chapters there is a very long number of minutes with no sound. A little tidying in the editing and this would be a much more enjoyable listen.

a book full of ludicrous details and plit points
The story is no more ridiculous than many thrillers, but the plot points such as detailed passenger manifests on local ferries, and bear traps on San Juan islands make for some laugh outloud moments. its clear the author has spent little to no time on any of the PNW islands. Also, many odd descriptive choices (for example, a character wishes his mother was at the courthouse looping her arms around him and kissing him on the neck..... and no, it's not supposed to be an incestuous relationship). It's free and I was out of credits, otherwise I would be upset at having used a credit on this.

Unlikeable characters
Police portrayed as unprofessional, other characters not well developed, story line gets confusing time and again - motivation is unclear. Only a couple of the characters seem to relate to each other rationally, which may have been the writer's intent - to build the mystery? - but left me wanting and unable to listen more than half way through.

Time I won’t get back
This was painful to get through.
Why do some authors feel the need to have main characters jump in bed with potential suspects? Why do some authors tie their significant others into plots that they shouldn’t be connected to? Why do some authors want to tie all characters and situations up with a prettier bow at the end?
Simple. Predictable. Boring.
