Publisher's Summary

In the tradition of Michael Crichton and Margaret Atwood comes this apocalyptic thriller that pits cutting-edge science against God and asks, who will win?

A strange phenomenon is sweeping the globe. People are having visions, seeing angels, experiencing events that defy reality. Bizarre accounts pour in from distant places: a French teenager claims to have witnessed Joan of Arc being burned at the stake; a man in New York dies of malnutrition in a luxurious Central Park apartment; a fundamentalist Christian sect kidnaps and murders a geneticist.

Then there is the graffiti We Are Becoming that has popped up in every major city around the world, in every language. And everywhere people are starting to talk about John Astor, the mysterious author of the book that seems to be at the center of it all.

After a rash of suicides around the world by individuals experiencing time-traveling hallucinations, psychiatrist John Macbeth and a team of FBI agents and scientists assemble to find out what's going on before it's too late. Is this a spiritual phenomenon - or something more sinister?

Thank you Ray Porter

I never would have listened to this based on the blurb or title. I only grabbed it cause it was free and read by the, always great, Ray Porter. I am so glad for this because the story was fantastic. The characters and scenery were so well described and the final pay-off was very well delivered. I will be looking for more from this author.

Must Read Novel in my opinion

Big subject written in a very human way. Very interesting, good narrator and the plot moves quickly.

Compelling and somewhat disturbing

This book was very compelling. But considering how anti-science, willful ignorance, and religious fanaticism is running rampant across the world, the book can feel disturbingly apt...

Entertaining and insightful

Let’s just get this out of the way - Ray Porter could read a phone book ( remember those?) and make it entertaining.
But this is not a phone book by any means. This is one solid novel - great story, enough sci-fi to keep it engaging and thought provoking. I will be listening to this again and again.

Oh wow. Love this story

While the story is long and drawn out (some of the earlier stuff could be pared down) it still draws you into the depth of the dilemma facing Macbeth. Love the twist and turns and the thought process he goes through i solving the puzzle. I’m definitely going to listen again!

Only Ray kept me interested

Ugh.

The only redeeming feature of this book was that it was performed by Ray Porter. I swear, I could listen to that man read a grocery list and it would entertain.

This is essentially a short story stretch out for 13 hours of gruelling, too many unrelated sub-plots and tangential stories. If the author stuck to the main story, and not try to “church it up” with all the heavy-handed hints of the upcoming story line twist, he could have cut it down to maybe a third of the length.

Glad this book was part of the Audible Plus membership, otherwise I would have stopped listening roughly 1/10th of the way through and returned the book.
