Publisher's Summary

The new short story from Karin Slaughter and Lee Child!

Twice the action.

Twice the drama.

Double the trouble.

Will Trent is undercover at Fort Knox. His assignment: to investigate a 22-year-old murder. His suspect's name: Jack Reacher.

Jack Reacher is in Fort Knox on his own mission: to bring down a dangerous criminal ring operating at the heart of America’s military. Except now Will Trent is on the scene.

But there’s a bigger conspiracy at play - one that neither the special agent nor the ex-military cop could have anticipated. And the only option is for Jack Reacher and Will Trent to team up and play nicely. If they can....

Great Story

Classic Lee Child. Love his writing and plot twists. Not sure of contribution by Karen Slaughter but assuming 50/50 she is a great writer too.

Always entertaining thrillers but don’t like this narration

Best narration for Karin Slaughter’s books are are done by Kathleen Early. I just can’t get into the story as much with the narration in this audiobook.

Not a lot of quit I hope

Really enjoyed this and it ended in the perfect place for a sequel!
Trent and Reacher are such strong characters, each in their own unique way.
Two different cases merge through them to an ending that causes Will to compromise his values and Reacher to disclose more than he normally does.
I am sure ypu will enjoy this and be looking forward to the next installment!

Not enough Jack Reacher

Opposite from other short Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child this one does not have enough presence of the main character. It seems that a collaboration of authors worked some kind of compromise that didn't really work out for Jack Reacher fans as myself. On top of that the story doesn't have a logical end and the performance does not fit well.

I want more!!!!

Cleaning the Gold is a really good short story featuring Jack Reacher and Will Trent, two of my favorite characters. I usually don't like collaborations between well known authors with equally known characters but this one works really well.
I wish this book was longer. It felt like it could be the prologue for another book for either or both characters together or separate. Some devious information is discovered at the end that cries out for completion. It's a worthwhile cliffhanger that should be followed up (one can only hope)!
The two narrators worked very well together.
This short story is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Too short

Took awhile to flesh out these familiar, beloved characters in this scenario and then squashed the plot line. The ending was more dangling than suspenseful.

Disappointing.

I am a Will Trent fan. I have loved all of the stories involving this character, until this one. I was disappointed as it was simply boring. Characters and story were not developed. The performance was monotone and boring. Still a huge Will Trent fan and am looking forward to the release of the next book in this series. Already pre-ordered.

This could have really been a good book....but

I hate cliffhangers. This book panders to those who will read the next book. That certainly won't be me.

Reacher fan disappointed

Narration could've been better and the story fell short. I was disappointed based on what I've come to expect from Reacher novels. It seemed like it would be great since it was two heroes coming together. Looking forward to the next book from Lee Childs

Great short story

It’s good enough to leave yearning for more. And I’m sure that was both authors ‘ intentions. I’m hooked!

Ended without an ending

Good beginning to a story, but it ended without an ending. All of a sudden it was over. Did I miss something or will there be another short story to complete the story. It left you hanging, I did not appreciate that.

One Author Too Many

I was excited to get this book because I enjoy the world of both authors. However, I was disappointed with the story. It read like it had been hurriedly pieced together . Just because two people can write a good story, does not mean the same two people can write a good story together.

Voices are miserable

These two readers. Each with their own verbal tick, so distract from the story that it’s a shame.

Blah

This was absolutely boring. A waste of credit and time. I love the Will Trent series. The author should of ended the series at “The last widow” Phenomenal series . This book which I would say is more of a Novella was dull!
