Publisher's Summary
A starfighter squadron driven to desertion. Hunted by friends and enemies alike. With one final hope for a new beginning.
The last reward Kira Demirci expected for heroism in a time of war was to spend the rest of her life dodging assassins - but when her government betrays her as part of their surrender, she and her comrades flee the star system of Apollo to the edge of civilized space.
The Syntactic Cluster is disorganized, disunified, and in desperate need of the nova fighters Kira smuggled out of Apollo with her. With an entire squadron supposed to follow in her wake, it falls to her to build a new home for her comrades.
But their enemy's reach may be longer than her worst nightmares - and even her new friends may not be all that they appear....

A good start for a new series in a large universe
One of the author's goal was to create a setting large enough to encompass a series of situations and technological levels. While the terminology and usage is at times hard to follow, this story is more than able to reach and grab you and your imagination. First time for Terii Schnaubelt narration, but was pleasant surprised by her range and ability to handle the wide array of situation and individuals.

Solid and engaging story, excellent performance by the narrator, good book.
I always enjoy how the author explores different settings and situations while still keeping his different series unique and interesting.

BATTLES (with a little story on the side)
It may be because this is book one of a series and a sense of action was pushed by someone, but this was battles to me with very little else of merit.
I felt the main protagonist had some amount of challenge put upon her, but all issues are too trivially resolved or decided. I would have appreciated a mystery revealed with effort on the part of the reader. Pretty well all scenes played out how you would expect them to.
I found the story predictable and unsurprising.

Slow start, but
I was frustrated by the beginning, given it was turning into a romance novel, but the author changed direction which I appreciated!
However, the book ended in a cliffhanger, which I really don't like!

Love this new series
Glynn has shown the skills he developed in the starship mage, and the duchy of terra series to build a new engaging world. A slightly tighter tactical view point with the main character being a fighter pilot is a fresh new viewpoint for Glynn. Looking forward to bk 2

I wanted to like it and I do....some.
This really seemed like a 3 chapter prequel stretched to be a full length novel. It’s a good story just stretched like the author had to make a word count.
The dialogue was clunky. But the characters were interesting. While I don’t think this was the author’s best work, I like the direction he is heading.
I will continue the series, or at least one more.
I get the feeling the next one will be a lot better.

Disappointing. I'm hoping book 2 is better
Good premise with lots of possibilities, but so far it's not keeping my attention. I really enjoy outer space Sci-fi and space operas, so I have a lot of hope for this series. But so far, there is very little character development, and it's pretty slow moving. The author spends an awful lot of time talking about star systems and ships that are totally meaningless to the listener and to the story. It feels like "page filling".
I'm also disappointed in the narrator. She relies heavily on Slavic accents as her only means of delineating the people talking. It's also very unusual that while the main character has a slight Slavic accent when talking, she has no accent at all when thinking and talking to herself. Note, I'm not being critical of Slavic accents; I'm being critical of the narrator for so heavily relying on that accent as a means of designating characters. She does not seem to have much range in using different variations of accents.
I'm going to get book 2 and give it a shot, but I sure hope the series gets better.

Starting another great series by Glynn Stewart.
I'm happy to be starting another great series by Glynn Stewart. As always the characters and action are great... the real surprise here is the great homage to Isaac Asimov's Foundation books. I'll let you find it on your own, but it was a fun Easter Egg in another excellent book.

Decent story and listen
I think this will be an interesting series. But, some of the writing is basic. Good story but basic writing and the start that got better as the book went on.
