Publisher's Summary

From the macabre mind of a Bram Stoker Award-nominated author, this heart-pounding novel of horror and psychological suspense takes a ghost hunting reality TV crew into a world they could never have imagined.

Fade to Black is the newest hit ghost hunting reality TV show. Led by husband and wife team Matt and Claire Kirklin, it delivers weekly hauntings investigated by a dedicated team of ghost hunting experts.

Episode Thirteen takes them to every ghost hunter's holy grail: the Paranormal Research Foundation. This brooding, derelict mansion holds secrets and clues about bizarre experiments that took place there in the 1970s. It's also famously haunted, and the team hopes their scientific techniques and high tech gear will prove it. But as the house begins to reveal itself to them, proof of an afterlife might not be everything Matt dreamed of. A story told in broken pieces, in tapes, journals, and correspondence, this is the story of Episode Thirteen—and how everything went terribly, horribly wrong.

"An epistolary descent into a living nightmare . . . well-written and genuinely unsettling. Fans of paranormal documentaries, ghost-hunting shows, and found-footage horror will lose their minds over this one."—Kealan Patrick Burke, Bram Stoker Award winning author of Kin

“A beautiful Russian doll of a story… Episode Thirteen hooks you, creeps you out, and then it overwhelms you. It’s House of Leaves meets Haunting of Hill House, in all the best possible ways.”—Peter Clines, NYT bestselling author of The Broken Room

The Book is Far More Satisfying Than a TV Show

I guiltily admit to having watched a ghost hunter show or ten. Better yet are the ghost story programs. And then there is the science that debunks it all. Roll all that into a spiral to get this delightful tale. Good characters with believable drives and reaction make for a satisfying journey into the unbelievable.

Worth a listen (or read if you have the book)

The preview offered is disappointing as it is only music. It offers absolutely zero insight in to the narrator’s voice(s) as well as the story.
All in all, it’s worth listening to for $9.99 or less.
Otherwise I would wait for a sale.

What in the hell did I just read?! I had to back it up a few times to figure out what the hell just happened.

This was such a fun one to listen to. Especially if you love ghost hunting and epistolary format. I definitely never wanna hear that song ‘the groovy people are here’ ever again! 😂

Excellent cast. A little long towards the last 2hrs of the book, But highly recommend it.

Not Scary.

I got this book as it came highly recommended as an intensely scary book. I'm not sure those readers normally read, but this was in no way scary. Also hard to listen to because of the constant sound effects.

Fun listen! Definitely will listen to more of this authors work

Had a great time listening to this book! The author really pulled me in to the plot, and had some interesting twists and turns that threw me off. 4/5

Would definitely listen to another novel by Craig DiLouie

What an Experience!!!

I listened to this while reading along with the book, and I cannot believe how much fun I had! I absolutely recommend doing it this way. I ended up reading almost all 400+ pages in a day! The performances were great and made me feel like I was watching an 8 hour movie. I’m honestly sad it’s over!

A lot of fun!! Narration very well done.

***3.5 stars***

I had a ton of fun with this one. I don't typically enjoy ghost hunting TV shows as most are very cringe but despite that, I enjoyed this audiobook. The narration performances were really well done and I found myself caring for the characters and wanting to know how it was all going to end. I had to sleep with the TV on last night from getting a spook. Overall, I was entertained throughout. I recommend!

Meh

I absolutely love horror, and nothing beats a good ghost story. This, however, is not one of them. it was such an interesting concept but ultimately fell flat, and I struggled to finish. The second half was just a slog, and I had to put it on 2x speed just to get through it because I could not take the slow delivery. I found the characters flat and kinda boring at best and one dimensional and boring at worst. Especially Nick, who is an ex cop and his whole thing is to constantly point out how he used to be a cop.

SO GOOD!!

This novel was AMAZING. I was hesitant to get it because the preview is just music, and I'm incredibly picky about books, but it ended up being the first book in awhile that I was super in to. The performance is beyond fantastic and the idea is novel af. The writing is also really good and suspenseful. One of my new favourite books - I cannot overstate how awesome it is.
