Publisher's Summary

Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

The most cringe narration!!!!

Jeez I’m surprised I even finished this book given how absolutely TERRIBLE the narration was!!!!! Audible needs to do better in hiring narrators!! I regret not buying the physical book, do yourself a favour and skip this audiobook !!!

Wonderful Story. Get better Narrators

I absolutely loved the story of Fourth Wing but please, please, PLEASE hire better narrators for the sequel 🙏 there were parts where the narration was so cringe I laughed out loud, during story lines that were not in anyway funny. Does a disservice to the beauty of this world and the story Rebecca Yarros has created.

I haven’t been drawn into a story like this in a long lonnnngggg time and I’m so in love. It’s like Harry Potter meet how to tame your dragon but make it violent

By far the best book I’ve read this year!

Wow I just bought this book after having seen so many people highly recommending it and I was a little sceptical as to how it would live up.

I’m so happy I bought this book, it has everything! Amazing world building, friendship, enemy to lovers, secrets, lies, heartbreak & dragons!!!

Kinda ends in a cliffhanger I’m really hoping this author doesn’t make us wait to long for the next book! I need more Violence aka Violet!

If you like fantasy, excellent read.

A bewitching and engrossing tale, that kept me reading. Fantastic world building, wasn’t expecting the sexy bits, but didn’t mind them either. Can’t wait for the next one.

Great book, wrong narrator.

I really enjoyed this book. It had all the elements I love, great plot, and characters. But, this is the wrong narrator. She clearly had a cold or something the first 50%, but despite that, I just really didn't care for her style. hoping they choose someone more mature sounding for book 2.

Best Read This Year!!

This book was just WOW!! The plot was amazing, so many twists and turns and the electricity between Violet & Xaden … I was hooked after only 10 minutes of listening to this book. I’m so glad I only have to wait till November for book 2 and not an entire year! This book is definitely worth it.

Fantastic story... HORRIBLE audio.

I think the narrator might have been okay if they weren't sick while recording. It is obvious that she was sick with a cold while filming... you can hear her swallows while reading. There is very little change in tone for different characters. As an avid audio book conisour...this was just bad.

Story is Fantastic. Narration is Unbearable.

Super into this story. I am reading Throne of Glass at the same time and continually came back to Fourth Wing because the story is more compelling IMO.

I am about 5 chapters in and hit my limit with the narrator. I was hoping it would get better, but when I literally hear phlegm/snot in her throat, I can’t. I literally gagged when I heard it a particularly obvious rattle and had to return the Audible version. I’ll be buying it on Kindle instead.

Please re-record the narration! The book is TOO GOOD to settle for this. And I will say, I didn’t find the tone of the narrator’s voice bad - it’s just the phlegm. Please record with no phlegm.

Erotica with Dragons

Listen, I enjoyed this book for the first 14 hours. It’s interesting, there’s tension, the heroine is great. But at the 15 hour mark, this books turns into an erotica and that consumes the rest of the story. There’s too much overly descriptive sex for the fantasy genre. I was excited to see where this series was going and now I’m bowing out.

Narrator was sick, needs to be re-recorded

Was really loving the story but listening to the narrator snarfing and swallowing phlegm was too disgusting. She obviously had a cold or something and should not have been recording. Returned the title. Ridiculous that this made it past the editor. How did this get released?

Fantastic book, awful narrator

This book is phenomenal! One of the best adult fantasy books I have read in a long time. The female narrator isn't a great choice though, you can hear her gasping for breath and swallowing really loudly throughout the book. She is also supposed to be a 20 year old woman and she sounds like a significantly older woman. I still think it's worth the purchase though bc this book is just too fantastic!

Great story-gross narrator

Just as others say, you can hear how sick the narrator is. The slurping, gulping, and mucous are beyond disgusting to listen to. Do yourself a favorite, save your audible credit and buy the book. It’s super gross to listen to her try to read through her sickness.

Great story narrator is congested

I loved the story and couldn’t put it down. The narrator has a great voice but she’s congested throughout the entire book and it’s distracting. Audible should edit and re-record, it’s a disservice to those of us who paid for the audio book.

Narrator is clearly sick

I want to listen so bad but you can hear how sick the narrator is and their swallowing etc. please have them re-record when they’re feeling better. They have a great voice if they weren’t stuffed up.

Amazing story, terrible narration!

This story was absolutely amazing! I loved the fantasy, the tension, the fmc, the dragons and their personalities and basically everything about the story. What I didn’t like, was the narration. It was incredibly frustrating and distracting to listen to someone with congestion narrate. The constant gulps of breath and nose sniffing made me almost give up about 1/3 of the way in. Luckily, I stuck it out and was rewarded with a great story. I can’t wait for book 2!
