About this listen

An unexpected gift offers the power to change everything. Keeping it could cost Diem her life.

The threat of war has arrived at Diem's doorstep, along with a new discovery that could save her people. To use it, she must survive the next thirty days by forming a devil's bargain with the people she hates most: the royal family of House Corbois.

As she dives into the world of the Descended elite, Diem quickly realizes good and evil aren't as simple as they seem. Old prejudices are challenged, and new loyalties blur the line between friend and foe.

Meanwhile, her mother is still missing, and the secrets she left behind can no longer be ignored—and neither can the Guardians and their demands. Caught between an old flame and a sizzling new spark, Diem must confront the truth about who she is and what she wants before time runs out.

War is coming, and dangerous enemies wait on all sides... but the most deadly battle Diem faces may be the one for her heart.

Glow of the Everflame is the second book in The Kindred's Curse Saga, a four-book epic fantasy romance series that follows our feisty, bad*ss heroine Diem Bellator in her fight against injustice and oppression, her struggle to survive in a royal palace full of betrayal and intrigue, and her journey of self-discovery and finding true love.

Takes a while before the book gets interesting but much better than book1.

The FMC is still really annoying! I wish the author had chosen to make her older. The naivety and inexperience of a 20 year old girl makes her seem stupid and emotional.

The repetitiveness of the same stuff from book 1 is incredibly frustrating as a reader and makes the narrative too predictable.

Just like book 1 it’s the end of the book that saves it from being a complete waste of time to read. Ugh, on the fence whether I want to continue the series. If book 3 is written like the end of this book then absolutely. However if the first half is more predictable, repetitive stupidity from the FMC I’d rather not waste my time or a credit.

Better than book 1

Loss of one star because the main characters continuous doubt of everything is too prevalent.. comes a point when you get it. Loved everything else

Book 2

The second book did not disapoint! With great characters, twists and lies. I am eagerly waiting for my next credit to listen to #3

Love this story!

🌟🌟🌟🌟/ 🌶️ Wonderful series although the FMC can be sooooo frustrating at times with her actions. I know it's part of her character development, so stick with it b/c it's worth it!

Definitely worth getting into this slow burn romantasy!

Overall not as good as the first book, lots of building and character development. The ending was really good though. All the awesome stuff literally happened at the very end of the book which hopefully all this building makes the next book better.

The Ending was so Good

Love the relationships our FMC builds and the fundamental values she holds. In a world divided, much like our own, she yearns to make a difference. Soon she will be given the chance with many obstacles in her way.

The way Penn builds such a beautiful FMC, the world she lives in and the relationships she creates makes this book series so worthy of a read. Love the development of her and Luther's relationship, as well as, with other Decended. Sometimes our perspectives in life are so clouded with the experiences we have given that it's hard to see the entire picture. This book captures this lesson and many others perfectly. I am finding myself through the entire series in a mere few weeks and wondering how much longer until the final book drops!

Definitely Read this book!

Leave your brain in the coat check at the door when you enter, and you’ll have a wonderful time with this book.

Does the plot or conflict make sense? Are the characters interesting or even a little well rounded? Is the world-building … even present at all? Does anything in this sequel even match what was written in book one?
….it’s best not to ask.

Instead of any of that, there’s a generic royal ball that takes up 2/3 of the book.

After the ball, the story occasionally remembers that it’s a sequel, and that the FMC had priorities in book one that are very at odds with wearing elaborately expensive clothing all day, being waited on hand and foot by servants whom she doesn’t bother to thank or acknowledge in any way, all while everyone she’s ever known until a week ago continues to starve and/or die due to lack of available medical treatment. There are a few throw-away lines about how she cares about their suffering…. before she returns to her indulgent privilege and does nothing.

Narrator is good but not great … a few times her voices don’t match how she’s voiced the same characters in other scenes so that gets confusing, and a lot of “voice typos” are left in the final edit (mispronunciations of well-established names and places in world, etc). As others have mentioned, there are a lot of spitting/saliva sounds picked up in the recording, so if that gags you be warned.

Fun, but makes no sense until 2/3 or 3/4 mark

This was such a lovely written book! I read the first but could not get my hands on the 2nd book so I decided to listen to it because I could not wait for Dec.3rd when the new publisher released the 2nd book. And I am so happy I did! This book is amazing! This series is so well written!

Heart wrenching and binge worthy!
