The world of Dune has shaped an entire generation of science fiction. From the sand blasted world of Arrakis, to the splendor of the imperial homeworld of Kaitain, readers and listeners have lived in a universe of treachery and wonder. Now, these stories expand on the Dune universe, telling of the lost years of Gurney Halleck as he works with smugglers on Arrakis in a deadly gambit for revenge; inside the ranks of the Sardaukar as the child of a betrayed nobleman becomes one of the Emperor’s most ruthless fighters.

A young, naïve but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals—in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg—whose true name is hidden from all he and Dunk encounter. Though more improbable heroes may not be found in all of Westeros, great destinies lay ahead for these two . . . as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits. Featuring more than 160 all-new illustrations by Gary Gianni, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a must-have collection that proves chivalry isn’t dead—yet.

Good story of the Dune cannon.
It does have a heady feeling throughout but it is to be expected from that series. What happens when an all-powerful emperor discusses his motivations, his turmoils and hopes for the future with his subordinates? You get what constitutes about 80% of this book. It may not be for everybody, but it was fully appreciated by this fan!

one of my top 3 books
The Dune series changed my life back when I was 18. I'm going through it now for the 3rd time and I still feel like Frank Herbert is talking directly to me and understands me better than I do. I loved every single word in this book.
Yes, it is definitely not for everyone, but if you, like me, feel like it has been written for you, that elevates the book to a manual of invaluable lessons you can't learn anywhere else.
The performance was very good but I couldn't help being annoyed by the whiny, overly dramatic, almost crying tone of whoever read the quotes before the chapters. Leto would never sound like that.

the best of dune
frank was a political commentator and his allegories throughout this series come out completely in this book.
as much as people dislike his later works, I think they became more and more politically charged from the time he wrote.
this book, above the rest is far more relevant to today than people realize.

Duncan Idaho jumps the shark
This is the point in the series where Frank Herbert really loses the plot, Duncan Idaho has turned into a Fonze fan service stand in, just an insufferably stupid caveman going “Ayyye”. The rest of the book and characters are just boring. Frank is out of ideas. It’s a real chore to finish this book, the only redeeming quality is that the voice acting is wonderful.

My Favourite
God Emperor has a reputation of being too philosophical and confusing, however I found these aspects of the novel to be its strengths. Not to mention the epic story that is told in this instalment. I found the characters of Leto II and Duncan Idaho extremely gripping, and the fascinating dynamic made me almost want to listen to it again after I finished. It is truly interesting how a nearly immortal God being keeps resurrecting Duncan to be his constant companion through time. This book is a must listen!

Hated it. I'm done with the Dune series now
I genuinely do not understand how this book got so much high praise. This book was long, boring, and pointless. A great deal of the book focuses on how bored Leto is with his life. We as the listeners must share in his boredom and listen to house endless narcissistic sermons about how smart he is. I have summarized the first 3 quarters of the book for you. The last quarter is the only part of the book where something actually happens, and what does happen is both stupid and painfully predictable. I still love the first 2 books, but I'm done with the Dune series at this point.

Pretty Slow
I LOVE the Dune series (including Brian Herbert's Dune books), but I found this one particularly tough to get through due to the drawn out philosophical conversations.
In true Frank Herbert style, it's worth the wait to get to the ending, but I felt I really had to push to get there.

A nice follow up to Dune Messiah
messiah was a bit of a slog, God-emperor brings the history, science, and religion of Dune back but is far more exciting than the previous book. I really enjoyed it!
