Publisher's Summary

A marshal tormented by a thirst for vengeance. A school teacher desperate to trade fear for courage. They have nothing in common except a quiet, little town built on betrayal.

Robert "Dent" Hernandez is a US marshal bent on bringin’ ’em in, preferably upright in the saddle, but draped across it works, too. Less interested in justice than revenge, he uses the badge as a license to hunt for his father’s killers. When an arrest goes wrong and he’s temporarily remanded to quaint Evergreen, Wyoming, to act as interim sheriff, he writhes over the delay to his plans. That is, until he meets the very pretty but suspiciously jittery schoolteacher.

What is she so afraid of? Turns out, a lot of folks in Evergreen are keeping secrets - ones that may shake the foundation of everything in which Dent believes.

An old-fashioned Western, Hang Your Heart on Christmas comes across like an episode of Gunsmoke. Packed with drama, a tantalizing mystery, and a heartwarming romance, you'll come back to listen to this lawman's story again and again.

Bonus material - includes a special vintage Christmas recipe and the true story behind the fictional Dent Hernandez! A clean cowboy Western romance with action and adventure. A great listen to take on vacation with you at any time of the year!

A Story of Hope!

I finished this engaging audiobook early this morning and was telling a colleague about it during our tea break.
She commented that I must have really enjoyed it because I was so animated and excited while explaining it to her.
Well, I was, and not surprising either. This is a book full of hope, desired and accomplished changes, blossoming love, wonderful characters - the good ones and the bad ones too. It has an interesting mystery to be solved and the story held my attention throughout.
I loved the brilliant voices our narrator came up with. The men sound like men and the women like ladies. Each voice has its own character and is really easily recognisable.
All in all, a wonderful story with great narration and I wholeheartedly recommend it!
I requested and listened to a promotional copy supplied by the narrator and my voluntary review above is unbiased.

Sweet with a Twist

Dent wasn't always a stone cold killer. Granted, a steady shot and a way with a noose has made him one of the best US Marshall's in the west, but with each dead outlaw, he loses more of himself. And until he finds the man who killed his father so many years before, he won't hand in his badge or hang up his guns.

Amy just moved to Evergreen, Wyoming to be the sleepy town's new school teacher. She fled her home for her new post with a few scars that left her scared of men, the dark, and the unknown. She was promised the quiet life, and intends to heal with the help of her adorable students and a new place.

They're so different, they immediately butt heads. Any thinks Dent is surly and abrasive. Dent thinks Amy is dull and too bookish. But you know what they say about opposites attracting. And when the towns new mayor and a mystery from the past invades Evergreen, the marshall and the teacher might have to join forces.

I thought this book was adorable. The romance was sweet with a nice, slow burn that really built up over time. It allowed me to get invested in Dent and Amy as characters without the "insta-love" some stories have. They had their own identities outside of the romance, which I loved. It wasn't just a man and a woman, it was two individuals with complicated feelings and pasts that weren't just slapped on a page.

The action in the book, which I won't go into so I don't spoil anything, also added a nice layer. Sometimes with sweet romances, it's easy for me to get bored. But with murder, crime, and mysteries to keep things spicy, I was fully invested. The one thing I felt was missing, was the Christmas. They were carving pumpkins, not decorating for the holidays, so I would have liked to see more Christmas from a book with it in its title.

How is it that Meghan Kelly seems to get more talented with every book? Really, I was impressed with the first, but it's like she keeps surprising me with the range of her voice. I think by the next one, I'll be able to identify each character by tone alone! Between the light accents and the inflections unique to each character, she does a lovely job.

Amy has moved to Evergreen to start fresh and get over her fears. Dent deals with death... is he driven by justice or revenge? Can they help each other move beyond their past demons, or will they be too difficult to move beyond?

A story of healing

This is a story of healing. Two young people who have been through a lot are in need of emotional healing. It takes them a while to figure out they need each other. But with the help of their friends/neighbors, they eventually come to see what everyone else is already aware of.

This story deals with grief, fear, revenge, healing, and hope. I liked the characters very much and the small town.

I listened to the audio version and narrator, Meghan Kelly, did a wonderful job. I think she does a really good job with all the male voices.

Revenge or release

A hardhearted Marshall bent on revenge gets put on suspension and fills in as a small town sheriff in the town he grows up in. He never expects to fall in love with the kindhearted jittery new school teacher and find faith. With danger following he will need to decide if he should stay or go back to being a lonely traveling Marshall. Meghan Kelly is a great narrator. I received a complimentary audio and this review is voluntary .

Great Clean Western!

Hang Your Heart on Christmas by Heather Blanton is a refreshing clean historical listen. This book was my first by the author and I found I really enjoyed her writing style. The imagery in the story is well done, and some of the characters were very endearing. I thought that Meghan Kelly was wonderful performing the book. She gave the characters distinguishable voices and brought them to life with the emotions she inflicted in her voice. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Clean Western Romance

This was my first Heather Blanton's book. Hang Your Heart on Christmas is the first book in The Brides of Evergreen Series. This is a fun and clean Western Romance. Dent and Amy's story is well written, filled with twists and turns, suspense and action. Meghan Kelly did a great narration, as always.
