Story
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Publisher's Summary
The world teeters on the brink of destruction.
The people who should be saving the Earth ignore Jason Asano's warnings and choose to loot the house as it burns down around them. He lacks the strength to save the world himself, but resolves to do it anyway, impossible be damned.
The impossible, in this case, means seizing a power that no mortal should touch. It's a choice from which there is no turning back, and marks Jason's first step into a wider cosmos that he is not yet ready to face.
Holding the fate of two worlds in his hands, Jason must decide for himself what home truly means.

The ending made me yell out loud
I've been waiting months for this book and it didn't disappoint. I just wish it was longer so I could enjoy more of it! It nicely tied off the events of the last couple books and set up the next ark perfectly. Can't wait for book 7!

this series is a dumpster fire now
go back to book 1-3.
complete garbage.
I stopped listening after I think 10-20 chapters. I can't take how bad the author ruined such a good series. so I looked up if it gets better and it only gets worse.
so disappointed I wasted my money on these after book 3.

a nice Segway into the next chapter of the series
although this book did have luls at time (early on especially) I quite enjoyed the ending and how it wrapped everything up for this trio of books (4-6). the epilogue was done very well also and I'm looking forward to getting into the next one

lengthy gloomy storyline
the Astral chapters were longer than necessary and gloomy. i could have done with less. if this had been book 1, I'm not sure i would have been hooked on the series. but there were redeeming features and the epilogs were good.

It felt like half of a book.
I’ve raved about this whole series so far, but this one wasn’t at all what I expected. This felt rushed. It was almost like a filler episode. It’s got to be hard to set up events as well as this author has, this was like listening to two parts of the series in fast forward. If anything this would have been better released at the end of book 5, not a separate book entirely.
I ultimately enjoyed it because Heath Miller is flawless this whole series. As a whole though, this to me felt like it was supposed to be the end of book 5, but they couldn’t decide how to slice this part of the series up. The first 3 part of the series was seamless, this wasn’t terrible, just odd. It was almost like he got bored writing about Jason on earth or something and threw book 6 in the microwave and said “screw it”.

Read books 7, 8, and 9 right now!
I was low key pissed this book was under 16 hours. My entire disposition changed when I found out the reason. I wasn't aware this was a web series, or even what a web series was. I sat down at my computer desk and looked it up . I was hit with a huge dopamine rush, and sat stunned. In a web series chapters are released weekly... and there are 213 more chapters to read RIGHT NOW!
I love the performance audio books provide, and will still buy every book coming out in this series. I am glad I started with the audio books, only recently switching to the web series. I can hear the way each character is speaking while reading. I never would have gotten the various accents right. The accents aren't just icing on the cake to me. It's the medley of flavors and textures that elevate a store bought cake to something you would get in a Michelin star restaurant.
This audiobook did feel like half a book to me, other reviews aren't wrong. Having now continued the story through the web series I can understand why the book stopped where it did. Luckily for everyone avidly devouring this series on audible you don't have to wait months for another book. You can continue your journey with Jason today!

The Book Leading Nowhere
No story. No character growth. Travis Deverell definitely should have left out 90% of those scenes. It was just filler. It was interesting filler, but none of it moved the story forward.
The end of book 5 left Jason ready to tie up a few loose ends, then head to another planet. That's what I expected in book 6.
Instead, he wrote an entire book to tie up a few loose ends. He could have done it with one chapter. What a useless addition to an otherwise stellar series.

Missed Opportunity, looking forward to better.
I love this series, enough so that I overlook the tireless political diatribe. However, this story arc with the MC on Earth started so well and then fizzled out at the end. I won't spoil things in the story but the choices made by important people in the last few books, while justifiable and plausible, just feel like such a let down. It probably says a lot that the part of the book I enjoyed the most was the Epilogue chapters. The hook at the end of the book is fine, if blatantly obvious, but after a real trudge through the author seemingly just trying up loose ends, it rings weak and hollow. Book 5 was decent, I was hoping this one would get us bad to Great, but the best I can say is that I hope the story picks back up with the next one or that's going to be the end of the series for me personally. Narrator did an awesome job as always!

Dragging onnnnn
Man I love this series, but when the second zone popped up that’s when I knew I was giving this a 2 star. I wanted the new world with quests and adventure, but instead have to be reminded of politics and crappy ways people treat each other on earth. This arc should have at most lasted 2 books, but then they just drag it on again in this book. Just took all the wind out of the sails for me, don’t get me wrong I am 100% going to get the next book……but am I excited for it like I have been the past books. No not really. I just feel like 6 books in he wasted too much time on the earth arc.

NO PROGRESS
I NEVER write reviews. And I love this series! BUT this book was terrrrible. This book took what should have been a maximum of 2-3 hours of wrapping up the Earth side quest and let it slog on for 15. Waste of a credit, Jason gained nothing, nothing major revealed to the reader, literally ZERO narrative progress. Super disappointed, but hope this book of word throw up lets book 7 be excellent…

The ending
When I first looked at the length of the book, I was a little concerned, I was even more concerned with the length of the End Credits. The last 5 minutes of the End Credits, you know and don't know what's going to happen. You want to know more and the ending leaves you wanting more. I can't wait for Book 7, keep up the awesome work Shirtaloon!!!

Nothing but filler
While it’s is easy to tear down any book or topic by summarizing it in one sentence this entry in the series deserves it. “Jason saves the world and goes back.” Outside of this simple backbone the entire book is filler. If the rest of the series wasn’t so amazing I’d legitimately be angry at having spent a credit and that much time listening to the exact same thing happen twice and then the author to phone it in for the last 2 hours of the book.
It really says a lot about a book when literally EVERY review 1 or 5 star says it’s only in the last 2 hours did anything worthwhile happen. That is the very definition of filler, if nothing but the final 2 hours matter. Save your credit, save your time, wait for the next one.

Awesome
This just came out, and I am so eager for the next one. It ended on such a high note.
This book is a bit more focused on a few specific events, dedicating a lot of time to them, but they are loaded with amazing details and what is most likely huge plot foreshadowing.
If you have reached this point in the series, this one is a must read. Each arc is set into trilogies, so be ready for some amazing big reveals and a lot of Jason being Jason.
Oh and keep an eye out for Tom Bombadil

end of second arc
A good one like the other! However since the arc 3 is not yet available at the time I wrote this it feels incomplete and a tiny part of the next arc at the end of the book would have felt a bit better.
