Publisher's Summary

A family ranch in Big Sur country and a legacy of Hollywood royalty set the stage for Nora Roberts’ emotional new suspense novel, Hideaway.

Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star - yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide-and-seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared.

Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Dillon Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house - but when the teenager and his family heard her story, they provided refuge, reuniting her with her loved ones.

Cate’s ordeal, though, was far from over. First came the discovery of a shocking betrayal that would send someone she’d trusted to prison. Then there were years spent away in Western Ireland, peaceful and protected but with restlessness growing in her soul.

Finally, she would return to Los Angeles, gathering the courage to act again and get past the trauma that had derailed her life. What she didn’t yet know was that two seeds had been planted that long-ago night - one of a great love, and one of a terrible vengeance....

Disappointing

Not Nora's usual caliber. No real character development. Plot was weak. Really disappointed as I've loved all her other books my entire life.

Juvenile

The plot was annoying. Way to much time describing kitchen decor or time spent at Sephora. Could barely finish this book and regret wasting my time. Also did not line the voice of the narrator. Felt like it should have been a daytime soap show.

Characters annoyingly perfect and privileged

The narrator was amazing and the only thing that kept me engaged.
Kate is too perfect. So is Dylan. I rolled my eyes a lot!!! Their entire families... basically describing the unobtainable dream. Maybe that was Roberts’ intent, not sure.
It had me thinking if only young adults were this perfect. Then I thought - gawd, how boring if they were - no opportunity for character building. A lot of “white privilege” thoughts went through my head continuously (I’m white). The plot got lost for me in all of the perfectness and it was a bit nauseating.

Didn't Enjoy this One

The story was just okay. The profanity was unnecessary. Wouldn't recommend this one. Skip it and choose another one.

I enjoyed the storyline.I was hooked in the first few pages. The narrator expressive voice had me mad at times and at others made me laugh.

meh

Found it very annoying how every character was constantly drinking a "coke" and how so much emphasis was put on it. Like, did coca cola sponsor this book???

A refreshing change from the triangle romance. The performance made the story even more entertaining.

Slow but steady...

A nice story that kept me interested. Not a fantastic book and I'm not a fan of the female narrator doing all the men's parts... all around this is an okay family drama that was pretty predictable throughout.

Gratuitous swearing and foul language

Not even the child characters could get through sentences without swearing, with the adults it was literally every second word. Nora Roberts has clearly lost it if she has to resort to this. Very unpleasant.

Oh Nora!

The more I Iisten to/read Nora Roberts the more jealous I am of her fame and fortune and the more I worry about her legions of admirers who depend on her for guidance on what romance is supposed to be like. There is not a flesh and blood man in the known universe who would put up with the emotional blackmail and shenanigans that her protagonists continually demonstrate or the controlling women supporting characters. Ugh. I like the suspense and settings - they are great. I'm ready to pack for Big Sur (except covid of course). But no self respecting man is going to accept this story of "Here are my failed relationships" on the first night of intimacy. Ugh ugh ugh. Nora please. You can do better and show your fans how real women "get" real relationships.

Solid romantic suspense

Roberts delivers another solid romantic suspense. The Publisher’s Summary is pretty solid for deciding if you’re interested in buying, but I’m not sure why they’re using the name Callan Cooper instead of Dylan Cooper?!
The name NR is practically a synonym for quality writing that you can count on for solid storylines, characters to temporarily adopt as family, and some solid hours of pure entertainment that can thrill and warm your heart.
LaVoy is one of the best narrators working today. Kudos on an excellent job.
Recommend.

Another awesome book!

I look forward to Nora Roberts standalone book every year! Her standalones have made my must buy list! The characters in this book are well rounded and believable.
In some places it was a little predictable, but not enough to make me want to stop reading! These books are real good books with just enough mystery in them to make do you want to keep turning the pages and finish! If you have never read a Nora Roberts standalone book, you should start with this one! I have read her books for many many years and love and buy all of those standalones!

Good story - bad language

The story was good but there was way too much bad language and so unnecessary to the story.

Tits Up!

Hideaway by Nora Roberts is romantic and suspenseful and humorous. I loved the mantra of "Tits Up" that is throughout the book. Nora develops great characters and paints vibrant imagery with her words. I could even smell the Irish Soda Bread while listening, I loved the setting of Big Sur for most of the book. The storyline is not totally predictable, other than I know there will be some twists and unexpected moments, which she excels at. January LaVoy was perfectly cast for the narrator of this audiobook. She delivers all the right emotions and brings the characters to life with her voice. I truly enjoyed this book and will listen to it again.

Ok

The narrator was great.
The story was drawn out and, predictable. Too much filler information that was not needed.

I miss epilogues...

While a bit predictable, still a great book and story. I love Nora Roberts. With that let me also add I wanted there to be an epilogue. There was so much other romance that I wanted vs all the suspense... that's more JD Robb for me. Finished by the second day it had been released, so trust, it'll keep you listening. Enjoy!

Disappointing

Good story but too drawn out. Narrative was good, characters were good, but again too drawn out.
