Story
Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star - yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide-and-seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared. Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Callan Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house.

Not a bad Nora Roberts book

Publisher's Summary
Number one New York Times best-selling author Nora Roberts presents Legacy, a new novel of a mother and a daughter, of ambition and romance, and of a traumatic past reawakened by a terrifying threat....
Adrian Rizzo was seven when she met her father for the first time. That was the day he nearly killed her - before her mother, Lina, stepped in.
Soon after, Adrian was dropped off at her grandparents’ house in Maryland, where she spent a long summer drinking lemonade, playing with dogs, making a new best friend - and developing the stirrings of a crush on her friend’s 10-year-old brother. Lina, meanwhile, traveled the country promoting her fitness brand and turning it into a billion-dollar business. There was no point in dwelling on the past.
A decade later, Adrian has created her own line of yoga and workout videos, following in Lina’s footsteps but intent on maintaining creative control. And she’s just as cool-headed and ambitious as her mother. They aren’t close, but they’re cordial - as long as neither crosses the other.
But while Lina dismisses the death threats that Adrian starts getting as a routine part of her daughter’s growing celebrity, Adrian can’t help but find the vicious rhymes unsettling. Year after year, they keep arriving - the postmarks changing, but the menacing tone the same. They continue after she returns to Maryland and becomes reacquainted with Raylan, her childhood crush, all grown up and as gorgeously green-eyed as ever. Sometimes it even seems like the terrifying messages are indeed routine, like nothing will come of them. Until the murders start, and the escalation begins....

some lovely moments but missing the page turning
January Lavoy is brilliant as usual.
Missed a lot of the true character development we used to get. Also wished we could have seen the kids interact a bit more with the main character.
liked how people are a little more realistic but ... Thinking that in the last ten years DVD's would be more popular than YouTube videos for fitness videos .. is possibly a little out of touch.

What happened Nora Roberts?
If I could rate this book less than 1 star, it would be more accurate. I don’t understand what has happened to Nora Roberts’ writing. Recently, other than her JD Robb books, her writing has become boring dribble! I really look forward to each new book from her, but again and again I am disappointed! I don’t know if I’ll waste my money on another one of her books. The characters are predictable and mediocre at best, her plot is weak and overall boring. No imagination at all! Very disappointed. If this is how you are going to write, just retire and enjoy life, but don’t have traders waste their time.

Not Suspense, so a pass for me. No Spoilers
Great description and thorough character building, but good Lord, I'm halfway through (6.75 hrs) and there has been hardly ANY action yet... just glimpses of foreshadowing, which is unfortunate because normally by now, I'd be completely hooked because of the action. Sigh... off to keep listening because I'm still hopeful.
Ok, so 8.75 hours in and still no action, I just looked up this book and realized it is categorized as Women's Fiction opposed to Mystery, Thriller, Suspense... which are the Nora Robert novels I've enjoyed.
This is a no for me, but if you like that genre, it may be for you.

Another fantastic story with some seriously adorable kids
I think that Raylan might be one if my favorite heroes of all time. He’s so cute and sweet and nerdy and was such a nice balance to Adrian’s go-getter attitude. There was just the right amount of story-building, romance and suspense in this one. And the bad guy wasn’t a piece of cake to identify. I liked that I didn’t just know who it was right away. And I always love the extended family elements in a Nora Roberts book and these were on par with the Sullivan family from Hideaway.

Poorly paced
This book started out great. It pulled out all the emotional stops. I cried more than once. Then about midway through it went flat.
From almost the beginning I had a good idea who the 'bad guy' was. That didn't ruin it for me because it was the journey of good and bad that makes the story. I was disappointed that more wasn't written about him over the years from the beginning of the story to the end. An interesting villain should have depth, not simply be nuts.
Toward the middle of the book it lags. The main female character is too perfect and I found the romance that developed unbelievable. It happened too quickly after the male's tragic loss. All that talk that was thrown in about the two having 'felt' something for the other when they were younger made them shallow. Those pages would have been put to better use rounding out our villain.
My favorite part was when the main character is starting in a new high school and the friends she makes and how she does it. She was her most likable during that section.
January LaVoy is always a joy to listen to. She brings life into characters beautifully.

Great Life Story full of Romance and its Tragedie
I really loved the entire book even through all of the crazy and sad ones. I loved the characters, the environment around the story. I hated the tragedies but a sucker for good endings! I was very sorry that the book ended so quickly. I would have liked to see a glance or peek at Raylan's and Adrian's life after with the kids in that big old house. I would recommend this book and the narrator did a great job with this book!
