I love the series and was looking forward to this but the story is not as strong and title has questionable production values. Sound effects and music overwhelm dialog often. This is s little too overproduced for my taste. I can listen to it on a quality Bluetooth speaker but off a vanilla Echo Dot it’s impossible to hear the story in parts.

I love the concept of an audio play but they still need to focus on the story and dialog, cut way back on the background noise.

In a nutshell, as a fan of the series I find it hard to recommend but it’s probably still worth a go. I just hope this is NOT the direction this series is headed or at least they figure out the right balance of background noise and dialog for future titles. Hopefully they might remaster this title and realize most people aren’t listening to this in a Dolby Atmos theatre.

Maybe it’s just this particular monkey that can’t handle the magnificence of it all...

Decent story, and the change of format was nice. The sound effects and music were sometimes distracting from the quality of the story. Also, please give back Simms, smith, and pool's voice.

Too much fancy sound effects

The story is good but I definitely didn't need all the background music or sound effects. All it did was take away from the story. If I wasn't such a big fan of the series I would say I'd stop buying these books. They've clearly got Alanson on a timeline to keep pumping stuff out.

I laughed, I cried, I will forever more hear Kate Mulgrew whenever Nagatha speaks. Sorry RC Bray she does it better!

the background sounds needed to be tone down a lot. I wish they would spent more time matching the voice that R.C had already put in place from day one. Craig is an amazing writer and R.C put the cherry on top of his work by bring his stories to life. if you or them every decide to do this again please take the time and have some outside influences to help polish the roughness out of this style. pick a handful of listener's to help. looking forward to the next few books. I would of still bought it and listen to the book because I'm a loyal fan of this series. this has bee the longer ever review I have done to any book I have listed to so far.
