Publisher's Summary

All’s fair in love and war, but only if you cheat.

Captain Jamie Callahan and Staff Sergeant Kyle Brannigan know the Metahuman Defense Force frowns on fraternization, but being together is worth the risk. When an Alpha Team mission requires Jamie and Kyle to fake a very real relationship in order to infiltrate a criminal alliance, Jamie understands it won’t be easy. To ensure the mission is a success, he’ll have to put his family’s name on the line to play the role of an estranged billionaire’s son, discharged from the military, looking to make his own shady business deals.

Except the target this time is no ordinary businessman, and the bargain being made is a problem for everyone. Surrounded by the enemy on foreign soil, Jamie and Kyle must trust each other now more than ever. Their covers—and the life they’re trying to build together outside the political spotlight—depend on it.

Preferred the Soulbound series

I enjoyed the first book

Greg Boudreaux’s narration is usually solid but there were too many inconsistencies here to ignore. Kyle sometimes had a Boston (?) accent randomly. Other times, it was hard to distinguish if Jamie or Kyle was speaking. Also is he saying “mu-szay-em” ?

The story itself was a bit slow until the gala with some minor or drama. Jamie’s sister’s tantrum about Kyle and Jamie didn’t feel believable.

Spicy scenes were hot

There wasn’t much character development from the 1st book so I don’t think I’ll continue the rest.

Narrator is good but just get into this storyline

This may just be me but despite the very good narration I think the writing just made several parts of this book/series drag. For me especially the love scenes. Rather then them being sensual they just dragged on way too long(20-30min too long). Something wasn't consistent with Kyle's character and his dialogue started to annoy me. Can't quite explain but I just found my mind wandering way too many times. This is my second listen of books 1&2 and again do not feel any interest or drive to continue the serie. For me that is not the norm as I usually binge listen when a series, characters and storyline has caught me in its grip. This series does not do it for me. Turner's Spellbound series is much more engaging and am eagerly awaiting book #7 in that one.
