Really good, but...

Well, here it goes.
Pros: Long story, absolutely worth your money.

Diverse topics, great for someone who is looking for a story that covers everything from basic tactics to diplomacy to logistical nightmares on the trail to rpg elements to basic combat.

The writer clearly has a long thought out story in mind involving multiple realms and his God tier ranking system is unique and fun, worth further exploration.

Cons: The main character seems to do a 180 on some of his beliefs without making progression to them in some cases, which can catch you off guard.
The male reader shows little emotion in most of the book, keeping a steady monotone through action, adventure, intrigue, eroticism, and betrayal.

Additionally, wherever our male reader is recording from allows the sounds of emergency services sirens to get into his recording audio, which can be unnerving if you're listening while driving, as well as ruin the immersion if you're listening while on a run.

The female reader shows much more emotion in her reading, but her microphone is not as clear as the males, and there is a clear divergence in audio quality between the both of them that can take you out of the moment at times.

Overall, its worth getting if you're into the genre. I think maybe going with the dual readers may have been a bit of a miss here, and maybe investing in an office room or something that has sound proofing would be a great idea.

It was ok

It was almost good enough to keep going. Too much ecchi weeb stuff for me, though. I'm sure some people think that girls arguing over boob size is cute or hot or whatever, but it's just not what I'm looking for in a book. That aside, it was pretty ok.

the narrator

I tried, and tried, to like this book. but the narrator is just awful. his voice is nice but his vocal inflection is so far off track the it absolutely destroys the immersion. like it's so flat, with random tone that doesnt even come close to matching the story not to mention the hodgepodge of randomized accents british aristocrat minotaur from the wilds, why not. then the female narrator... she has the opposite problem better vocal inflection but literally the exact same voice for all her characters. first book in a while I actually needed the author to write in "said bella" or I would have thought it was any of the other girls. and lastly the story, has some really cool elements that i was stoked for then it devolved to the protagonist moaning about his ethical dilemma of trying not to kill bad guys cause killing is wrong. then in almost the same paragraph he kills 4000 gators, and moans some more a out what a monster hes become, despite littleraly being on a world that cultivates lives for power... like the whole point is to do that, but he cant make up his mind and whines about out it over and over... i really tried to like this book got over 20 hours in and just cant anymore.

Spineless Mc

I usually go into these types of series with a open mind about how the MC will handle everything but this book turned me off on how spineless he is. Even after being tricked into several situations he still falls short in common sense.

Don't waste your credit

I'll start with the only redeeming factor of this book being that Erin Bateman does a great job with the female vocals. All the female characters have a depth to them and she does a great job bringing it out.

That said, the other guy (who I won't both to remember his name because of how much he sucks) has exactly one tone of voice: bored. When the MC is getting sucked through a portal? He sounds bored. When the MC is getting attacked? Bored. Getting laid? Also bored. His monotonous tone make this book so infuriating that after 5 hours into it I gave up knowing this guy has forever been moved to my "do not buy" list.

This book could have been good, if someone else was narrating it.

Loved it

TL-DR: Super long audio but action packed. almost 3 books in one from the feel. Very well-built world. Long but flows very well. Character starts off as almost less than zero, in a very amusing and funny way. Ends in the semi-OP on the way to OP in progression. Voice actors were great. Loved it.
This was much better than expected. I like books on the longer side as I love to read/listen all the time. Gave this one a shot even though I thought that Isekai has been overdone lately. Starts off kind of hilarious with a boy meeting a girl, who turns out to be more than she seems. Don’t like giving spoilers so I wont describe too much. However, he falls into a trap and gets put into another world. Standard Isekai plot for the most part at this point.
But rather than getting into a young superman style body, he gets stuck in… well. I wont spoil it any more than that.
Regardless to say it starts off with him underpowered. He has to fight through adversity. Since he is a healer type, it provides an interesting challenge. The MC is much more tactical in decision making rather than the typical “Leroy Jenkins” strategy used by a lot of other MC’s in the genre.
However, by the end the MC gets some serious power. Enough to satisfy the crowd who love their characters OP. bad guys in the book progress with the MC for the most part, so it doesn’t make them weak and stupid all of a sudden.
Overall well rounded book with an original twist on a semi over-populated genre. Some numbers in it but not super “Crunchy” in my opinion. Think most fans of the genre will have a hard time putting it down.

excellent

a good slow full length adventure. the mc does a great job with the situation he's thrown into. the mc is transported to another world not because of getting paid a visit by truck-kun but because he channels his inner bard and gets tricked by a woman. hilarious hijinks and great fighting. the mc is gifted or cursed with opposing magics but does a outstanding job trying to cope with mastering them while on the run and learning about his new world. great story loved it from start to finish.

every terrible trope in one story

Narrator makes everyone sound weak and timid. Story jumps the shark every scene. Unnecessary over sexualization.

Fantastic debut for a new author!

I saw this one both as it was being written on Royal Road and as it was being published as an ebook. While it definitely caught my attention, then it didn't demand it like it did when I saw it was being made into an audiobook.

Disclaimers:
This is a long story, at 36 hours. While it's fantastic value for the audiobook credits, just know that this first book is practically a trilogy on its own. Know that you're going into a tremendously proportioned story when you download this book, with two more sequels awaiting production!

Performance:
This story is narrated by multiple narrators, which truly helps bring the production value to a new level. The alternate male/female narrator makes first person seem fresh, exciting, and new. Both narrators are clearly veterans in audiobook narration, and they definitely know their stuff. All the characters have distinctive and unique voices that help immerse the reader in the world. I have nothing but compliments here.

Story:
The true meat of the book is the story. Han Yan has crafted an incredible adventure, taking the tried and true isekia introduction and making it own with his unique tist of a competition between gods.

The protagonist meets one of those gods and the story begins as he's thrown into the body of an old man minutes away from death. Only by obtaining the magical power of the world can he prevent his death and accumulate the power to someday go home.

That's as much as I'll spoil on the premise, but the rest of the plot only gets more intriguing from there, with villains and challenges around every corner for the protagonist to face.

The characters are believable and intriguing, filled with mirth despite the grim nature of their world. They aren't murderous cuthroats or arrogant young masters, but real people who feel like they could actually exist and be heroes in a distant realm.

I hope you guys reading this will give Han Yan a chance. You won't regret it!

Refreshing change of epic story

not a change of pace, an all out epic adventure from an author that does this on a regular basis. shows a great deal of character development as well as a story that doesn't sit and get stagnant. will be following this series with great expectations.

Loved it!

When you drive as much as I do, long audiobooks are a godsend. I enjoyed the story. The narration was good. I'd definately buy number 2.

Good start.

This was a pretty good start to what I am hoping is an amazing series. The MC doesn’t immediately become OP or instantly turn in a warrior badass. His progress feels more aligned to an actual person changing to adapt to their new life. He struggles, and makes several mistakes at the beginning and doesn’t immediately learn from them. But as he keeps pushing on trying to survive, he does learn. I also loved that the character didn’t immediately become ruthless when put into a difficult situation that refused to give him any breaks.
