Publisher's Summary

The kids are the least of our worries.

Seriously. If that sounds blasphemous in a book for concerned parents and educators (and anyone, really, who worries about "kids these days"), then I am so glad you're here. If you have a kid, work with a kid, or love a kid, you will find something inspiring in this audiobook. Dare I say, game-changing.

These words were born from the hundreds of stories of kids, their families, and their support systems I was lucky to meet as I worked across Canada and the USA. Regardless of who I met or where I met them, the message was always the same: Our kids are okay only if those of us holding them are okay.

During the developmental years, schools and educators are the most significant connection point to almost every child on this continent. But are the educators okay? I believe that most of the great educators want to make a difference. Many tell me, however, that they are finding it more and more difficult these days to love what they do. I think it's time we did a better job of looking after them first. Plain and simple, this book is for the educators: our teachers, bus drivers, administrators, educational assistants, librarians, administrative assistants, and custodians. And anyone who leads, loves, and supports them.

Plus just for you, I recorded a little bonus chapter filled with thoughts and ideas about the future and our next steps in this journey to create a more connected world.

I am so grateful you are here to listen to these words.

Beyond grateful...

I can’t begin to put into words how appreciative I am of Dr. Jody Carrington and this book. I do not know her, and I am not a teacher, but I found a sense of relief hearing her describe the many methods we can use to help kids regulate. I put it into practice the other day with my 5 year old and it was a game-changer! Following her guidance, adding in a bit of the mom knowledge of my child, and bam...meltdown curbed and peace resumed.
To the good doctor herself - thank you for sharing for wisdom and being so authentic! I can see why your words, and who you are as a person, have made you such a magnet to those seeking a better way to support our “sweet babes” in this world.

Anyone who works with children should read...

anyone who works with children will take something from this book. It is heading in the right direction as far as "helping", "fixing" or "healing". Dr. Jody addresses the root problems of why we are seeing what we are seeing today in children and in people in general. Thank you Dr. Jody!

Very Inspirational

I found this book more beneficial than most professional development sessions. The way the narrator communicates her ideas is not your typical dry presentation. She is also very inclusive of all members of the educational equation. Well worth another listen! Thanks Dr. Carrington.

Must Read for Educators

What an amazing read! I may be biased because I live and teach in Edmonton, Alberta but Oh My Goodness this book is good! Not only did it lift my spirits, it reaffirmed my commitment and passion for education. It’s filled with relevant and useful strategies that I can apply in my classroom and I will definitely be sharing it with colleagues.

Awesome Sauce!

I’m so glad I decided to read this book, in fact I recommend it for my entire staff. Such a wonderful message about the essence of existence ... connection. My ahah take away was that kids need to be disregulated in order for a caring adult to model how to regulate! Dr. Jodi is a game changer in my opinion!

Jody-Frickin'-Carrington!!

This book has spoken to my soul. Listening to Jody speak about and explain her words has felt like we're across the table from one another and she is speaking to me directly and that she is looking into my eyes and saying, "I go you sweet educator". Definitely going to listen to it again and again! Thank you Jody!

MUST READ for all Teachers

As an elementary educator, I enjoy fitting in some "professional development" books into my routine. A friend recommended I checked out Jody's book, and I was blown away immediately. I am so glad I bought the audiobook version instead of the paperback as well. Jody is so relatable, but her knowledge and stories allow me to reflect upon myself, my students, and our world throughout the entire book.

It's entertaining, insightful, and educational without being mundane or dry. Kids These Days is a MUST READ for anyone that works with our children.
