Publisher's Summary

“I don’t just want to hear her laugh, I need to earn it. Every time I gain a little ground, I want more. I want to break out of the shade and back into her light. Without even realizing it, I’ve become addicted to it. To her.”

From the author of the genre-breaking international TikTok sensation Butcher & Blackbird comes the second book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy—a hate-to-love dark romantic comedy packed with danger, chaos, and heat.

Contract killer Lachlan Kane wants a quiet life working in his leather studio and forgetting all about his traumatic past. But when he botches a job for his boss’s biggest client, Lachlan knows he’ll never claw his way out of the underworld. At least, not until songbird Lark Montague offers him a deal: use his skills to hunt down a killer and she’ll find a way to secure his freedom. The catch? He has to marry her first.

And they can’t stand each other.

Indie singer-songwriter Lark is the sunshine and glitter that burns through every cloud and clings to every crevice that Lachlan Kane tries to hide inside. The surly older brother of her best friend’s soulmate, Lachlan thinks she’s just a privileged princess, but Lark has plenty of secrets hiding in the shadows of her bright light. With her formidable family in a tailspin and her best friend’s happiness on the line, she’s willing to make a vow to the man she’s determined to hate, no matter how tempting the broody assassin might be.

As Lachlan and Lark navigate the dark world that binds them together, it becomes impossible to discern their fake marriage from a real one. But it’s not just familiar dangers that haunt them.

There’s another phantom lurking on their doorstep.

And this one has come for blood.

Tropes:
Hate-to-love
Marriage of convenience
Grumpy / sunshine
He falls first
Groveling, but make it psycho
Touch her/him and die

christ Jesus 🥵

Christ Jesus (IYKYK) this BOOK!

I absoluetly loved Butcher and Blackbird so I was definitely scared that this wouldn't hold up to it.... was I wrong.

I did the audio format and it was incredible. The narrators were incredible (that Irish accent is to die for). The story was just as great.

This book will make you laugh, sweat, tense and gag!

I cannot wait for this series to continue!

The laughing and other sounds were unbearable

The story itself along with the writing was great! But the fake laughing and other sounds added by the narrators took away from the story. It made it very distracting as well. It was incredibly cringey and not needed. Maybe the book could be redone without the fake and painful laughing. 0/10 for performance if I could

Holds up to the first book!

The story was a great! The male voice was the best part about this book! My only irk was the female voices laugh. It just sounded too forced and maniacal.

A Must!!

I loved every minute! Finished in a day couldn’t stop listening! The only cringe part for me was the forced laughing.. aside that it was bang on amazing!

Best Audio I’ve listened to

I can’t recommend this book enough. It had me all over the place emotionally. I cried, I laughed, I cringed. I could not love these characters any more. And the spice 🥵 Brynne came to play with this!

I absolutely loved it I love both book it was the best

I've read a good amount of books I'd say the best of the best are the ones that are dramatized BUT this series is one of my favorite I love them both I can't wait for the next one. I absolutely loved the duet .

Master performance

The narrators were FIRE!
They made the book.
I LOVED Butcher & Blackbird and was excited for this but over a tad disappointed.
It didn’t hold a candle to B&B imo.
The story was a tad convoluted and occasionally hard to follow.
Worst of all, the spice didn’t come until the last 1/4 of the book!!

A Masterpiece

The plot, characters, and spice are phenomenal. Both narrators really brought the story to life. This was a masterpiece.

Great performance

B&B was way better but this was good! The beginning dragged on a bit. Should have developed the relationship more when they were together

vocal performance is better than perfect!

I want more! even though I liked Butcher and Blackbird's chemistry more, this was still a 5/5 in every way. The humorous moments are well-written, like the eye (that's all I'll say).
