There are stacks upon stacks of self-help books that will promise you love, happiness, and a fabulous life. But how can you pinpoint the exact behaviors that cause you to be miserable in the first place? Sometimes when we're depressed, or just sad or unhappy, our instincts tell us to do the opposite of what we should - such as focusing on the negative, dwelling on what we can't change, isolating ourselves from friends and loved ones, eating junk food, or overindulging in alcohol. Sound familiar?

Spending with abandon and ignoring bank statements were her modus operandi. Just because she wasn't in serious debt apart from her massive London mortgage, she thought she was in control. She wasn't. Something needed to be done ,but rather than cut back here and there, Michelle's approach was more radical.

One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books.

Perfectionism is a naturally limiting mindset. For example, kids are taught to color inside the lines, and any color outside the lines is considered a mistake that must be corrected. These time-poor people experience less joy each day. They laugh less. They are less healthy, less productive, and more likely to divorce. In one study, time stress produced a stronger negative effect on happiness than unemployment. How can we escape the time traps that make us feel this way and keep us from living our best lives?

Publisher's Summary
Do you ever feel like life is weighing you down? Like the stuff in your home, the to-dos in your schedule, the worries in your heart are too much? Make "lightly" your mantra, one lovely little word to live by, and transform your life.
There's no shortage of decluttering books on the market, but Lightly is different. It goes beyond decluttering - far beyond - to uplift your thoughts, your actions, every moment and aspect of your life.
Learn how to lighten:
- Your stuff: create a serene space with your favorite things
- Your step: consume less and live in harmony with the Earth
- Your stress: be less busy and breeze through your days
- Your spirit: clear emotional baggage from your mind and heart
Lightly is like a recipe book for minimalism, designed so you can dip into it anytime for advice and inspiration. Whether you want to clear out a closet, free up some time, or get rid of a nagging guilt, you can listen to the relevant section for the help you need.
What's more, Lightly is a complete philosophy of life. When you're tempted by an impulse purchase, trying to resist a chocolate donut, or struggling to say no to another obligation, all you have to remember is one word - "lightly" - to boost your resolve and make beautiful choices. It doesn't get any easier than that.
With this book, Francine Jay makes minimalism more doable and delightful than ever. In just minutes a day you can cast off the weight, and glide through life more lightly and gracefully.

Narrator’s voice is absolutely beautiful
Usually I like books that are read by the author. However, this narrator has such a peaceful soothing hypnotic voice that at one point I decided to play this audible on 0.75 speed and use it as a sleep guide. IT WORKED!! I was asleep before we even got to “Work Clothes”
By the time I awoke, we were almost at the end of the book, SO I still needed to listen to the book *properly*.
That being said, I really appreciate the way this author plays with words and rhyme! She’s truly a poet! 💕

Did not like the narrator!
This is a good book but I found the way the narrator was reading very distracting. It was way too breathy with strange inflection changes that sounded as if the sentence was ending in the middle instead of at the end. The important points the author was trying to make got totally lost in this weird narration. Could not finish listening to the end!

Shake Off Burdens
Take advantage of this terrific $1.95 daily deal and stop or in most peoples situation slow up the over booked calendar or overwhelmed life. As a recovering shop-a-holic and not trusting there is a better or different source, I am burdened with getting rid of the old treasures. Most importantly I am constantly having to stop my self from buying, just because I can. The opening of this book explains how the author set out to unburdened herself. I too am now able to travel using the same methods as the author. If you are like me, and need a periodical boost to keep focused on not going back to old habits, then this book is for you. These simple steps to never going back to the full blown burden of getting rid of stuff, is a great. However, if you are just starting out on the steps to unburdening yourself, these simple steps may have to be addressed literally one step at a time. The author gives you the steps and repetition is a key word to focus and consistency. YOU have the desire, and this book gives you the simple, and now after listening to the beginning no less than 10 times, the easy steps for you to keep focused and be consistent. I encourage you to give this book to a fellow person who you care about. IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE. What a deal!!! Thank you Audible

Recording is not crisp and clear
I found this book to be excellent. Unfortunately the recording is not. It’s rather muffled and difficult to understand at times. I don’t know if it’s the voice of the performer or the technique used in recording her words. I wish it had been “crisper” so I could’ve enjoyed hearing Francine Jay’s words more easily.
