The characters have the makings to be so fascinating and interesting, but with the exception of one character outside of the protag and main interest, everyone else is forgettable, and borderline unimportant.
I’ll read the second, and see if that serves to effectively connect and uplift my impression of the first instalment.
If you’re sitting on credits, see it on sale, or just looking for some low stakes story to have on in the background or when going to sleep, I’d say give it a shot.
Everything, sadly, just feels fairly surface level…
