Publisher's Summary

Using principles from cognitive psychology, Nick Kolenda developed a unique way to subconsciously influence people's thoughts. He developed a "mind reading" stage show depicting that phenomenon, and his demonstrations have been seen by over a million people across the globe.

Methods of Persuasion reveals that secret for the first time. You'll learn how to use those principles to influence people's thoughts in your own life.

Drawing from academic research in psychology, the entire book culminates a powerful 7-step persuasion process that follows the acronym, METHODS:

  • Step 1: Mold Their Perception
  • Step 2: Elicit Congruent Attitudes
  • Step 3: Trigger Social Pressure
  • Step 4: Habituate Your Message
  • Step 5: Optimize Your Message
  • Step 6: Drive Their Momentum
  • Step 7: Sustain Their Compliance

This book teaches you the psychology behind each step. You'll learn how to apply METHODS to your own life so that you can influence people's thoughts, emotions, and behavior in nearly any situation.

Fun insightful book and excellent narration

A good cover of many topics that affect perceptions, brought in a light and fun way. The reader becomes part of an experience that demonstrates these principles presented
The narrator is one of the best I heard and adds so much value to the audio experience! Seriously good job.

Read this book first!!

Cognitive science is my passion and hobby. I’ve read all of Cialdinis works, thinking fast and slow (kahneman), multiple “Great Courses” on the subject, Malcom gladwell, and many others. While I can honestly say that I didn’t learn anything new, Nick has done an amazing job condensing all the facts down with incisive brevity. It is not drawn out like most of the other books. If you are new to this topic, Start With This Book first!

Robert Cialdini “Influence” repurposed

Most of these methods come straight from the book “Influence” from Robert Cialdini. All great information just pitched slightly differently. Still a good read for those who have not read “Influence.”

Possibly the BEST book on this topic...

This book made all of my years of study on human behavior make sense and then opened me up to much more than I anticipated.

Nick’s experience as a magician and hypnotist made his information practical and real. It was like a PhD proving his work with an MD.

There were several life changing insights that instantly affected my business, life and marketing and I intend to listen and read this book over again. I already purchased the paperback and started going through it.

P.S. This is my first audible review. I’ve never felt so compelled to write a review. This book is amazing.

Juvenile

I bought this book when I was a—..ahem “younger man” and initially, it might have resonated with me a bit better if I hadn’t read other (Better) books on persuasion and social intelligence…but even after listening to it just now, I’m not sure when, if ever, in my life this could have been helpful…the author grandstands a lot on their “eXpErIeNcE” with persuasion a bit too much for my liking…kinda like a football coach who starts every speech with “Back in My Day” and finishes with “And that’s How I Lead Our Team to Victory”
I and the points and idea’s in each chapter felt either Generic or Anecdotal…either I’ve heard their idea’s 1000 times before or the “methods” were specific only to the author (or a specific ‘type’ of persuader) not the general audience at large.
And the shameless plug at the end made me realize how much of “quick buck” scheme this book really is
You may have gotten my Buck, but I’ll raise you a one star and learn my lesson

Helpful and to the point

This book wastes no time with pseudoscientific preamble about auras and energy levels. I appreciate the research and availability of citations and although I was persuaded by the ending remarks to submit a review, I’m not upset about that at all. I want people to know that this book presents information in a way that is uncommon in today’s society. An expert sharing their knowledge and someone who has the wherewithal to point out gaps in mine and their understanding. That’s unique in my opinion, I may be attributing my level of satisfaction heuristically because I finished the book but I don’t even care. I recommend this to anyone who is tired of the swill that is usually available on this topic, great job Nick.
