Story
Although clinical research has been conducted on narcissism as a disorder, less is known about its effects on victims who are in toxic relationships with partners with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

Constant research on narcissism only takes away time that could be used for implementing self-care patterns for your own recovery. Do you want to get past all the painful feelings such as shock, confusion, fear of the future, anger, loneliness, abandonment, and shame? If so, you have come to right place.

Story
Narcissistic abuse was originally defined as a specific form of emotional abuse of children by narcissistic parents, but more recently the term has been applied more broadly to refer to any abuse by a narcissist (someone that who admires their own attributes), in particular in adult-to-adult relationships the abuse may be mental, physical, financial, spiritual or sexual. If you have been through an abusive relationship with someone who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, you will know that no one understands what you are going through unless they have personally experienced it.

Story
Still struggling from the effects of a narcissistic or psychopathically abusive relationship? Narcissistic Victim Syndrome is not officially recognised, nor is it widely even known. Covert Narcissists dangle their vulnerability in front of you as bait, just waiting for your good nurturing mothering/fathering instincts to kick in and rescue the poor little lost child they are presenting to you. But beneath the mask of a shy, vulnerable and “good person” something far more sinister lurks.
Written by: Dr. Theresa J. Covert
Publisher's Summary
Narcissistic abuse is a form of abuse that ensures victims are left emotionally drained, mentally exhausted, and devoid of any self-worth or self-esteem. I was a victim of a malignant narcissist for seven years of my life, and I know just how crushing it is to live such an abusive and suppressed life. The helplessness and detachment from reality that comes with narcissistic abuse are enough to keep you in the tight grip of the abuser for as long as they choose.
However, I eventually found the courage to leave my abuser, but it didn’t end there. As you may know, ending a relationship with a narcissist isn’t that easy - even if it was the narc who did the breaking up, they don't just "let you go" - they try to make sure you’ll go through hell before you get one over on them.
In this audiobook, I want to offer you some guidance on this rarely-talked about aspect of an abusive relationship: how to deal with a narcissist when they’re your ex.
The chapter list is as follows:
- Why you shouldn’t go back and why you need to move on
- Why you need to go "no contact" and ways you can do this
- How to stop missing your abuser
- Understanding and dealing with "hoovering’" after a break-up
- Narcissistic stalking
- How to deal with "flying monkeys"
- Survivor stories from two former narcissistic abuse victims
Throughout the audiobook, I also offer some of my own story too, in the hopes that this offers you a sense of familiarity. You’ll likely find that thing things I went through are very similar to your own experiences, and the purpose of this audiobook is to get you to the point where I’m currently at: healed and thriving.

Helpful if not taken too far...
Very enlightening...but be careful of confirmation bais. I would caution readers against making a broad-stroke in pathologizing your partner as a Narrasist. By all means...set boundaries...but I encourage you to think about your partner, not as mentally ill, but rather as a damaged human. Think empathy, not hate.

thank you so much!!
absolutely amazing. I'm going through this right now with my narcissistic EX. she is currently back in my life for the hundredth time in the last five months. it's almost like our souls are tied together with magnets. no matter how hard I try to get away and cut all ties of communication, I always get sucked back in. I was abandoned as a child so my biggest fear is being alone, and she uses that to her advantage. she also knows that my love language is physical touch. she knows I'm not being physically affectionate with anyone else, so the only way I can truly feel love is if I allow her back in my life. she actually began to call me a narcissist and started pulling up articles to make me believe that i was the one who was manipulating her. I read this book with an open mind. I wondered if I was the narcissist. I tried to put myself in the shoes of the narcissist, but the shoes didn't fit. it's been her the entire time. hopefully this will give me the strength to finally be at piece with walking away, for good this time.

Wish I read this instead of counseling
Listening to this one book shed more light than any friend or family or counselor ever has. If I would had this book 5 years ago my life would not be where it is today and I would be so much more ahead and would not have been staying in a toxic relationship and I would’ve known what a narcissist is and exactly everything they said is exactly everything my narcissist was doing to me.
It made me want to say do you know my narcissist!!??? Listening over and over to this is what really set me free and made me stand my ground’s to get away!!

Thank you!
I was struggling with the fact that my narcissistic Ex recently left me after almost 2 years of abuse and torment with no closure or explanation. I made the mistake of ignoring all the red flags and fell in love with a person that was only present about 25% of the time that we were together.
After listening to this audiobook I felt the weight lifted off of my chest, heart and conscious. It was such a relief and what I had been praying to happen for a while now. I plan to listen to it again soon. It was so therapeutic.
Thank you Lauren for sharing your story!! You have changed my life and freed me from the bondage! You are such a blessing.

too short
I'm not going to sit here and say that this was a bad book I'm just going to say that there are other books out there that you can buy this is definitely one that you should keep but you should look for something longer that gives you more detail and understanding especially considering that it only speaks on male narcissists it doesn't tell you how complicated female narcissists can be and how they can abuse their way into marriage and then making your life a living hell for the rest of your life with your kids.

extremely gender biassed. all narcicists are men and all women are victims. doesnt even illustrate that misguided view well
