Publisher's Summary

One war has drawn to a close, but another has just begun.

It was supposed to be an easy victory lap in the capital city, but life around Thorn is never that simple. New responsibilities, underhanded nobles, a shadowy cult, and a struggle for the throne of Northern Angoril all promise to make life exciting...if he can survive.

Thorn falls deeper into the political struggles of the Empire when the capital is rocked by a terrible murder and is forced to learn that not all problems can be solved with the heavy end of his tetsubo. New allies and new enemies emerge as Thorn races to stop a catastrophe that will shake the entire world of Nova Terra.

A little battle heavy...

I have loved the Nova Terra series and I certainly still do. However, this book got a little too bogged down in battles for my taste.

Solid four stars

I feel I should be open - I am not a d&d fan and I don’t usually submerge myself in this type of literature, and yet here I am, reviewing seventh book of the series. I got hooked on the first and the second book but each new one falls more and more below my expectations. It feels like entire story got stretched to the limits and it could be easily compacted to one solid book. I wish someone rewrite the series without repetitive descriptions of fights or reoccurring in-game stats.
Having said that I really like the main character and the fantasy world.
