Publisher's Summary

A breathtaking novel from the number one New York Times best-selling author of the This Man trilogy.

One night will never be enough...

Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He's heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she's almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she'll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin...signed M. All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment, nothing but pleasure.

Every defense mechanism Livy has adopted during her solitary life is at risk of being obliterated by this confounding man. He's obnoxious but well-mannered. He's a gentleman but aloof. He's passionate but emotionless. Yet the fascination is so powerful, Livy can't deny him...or herself.

M awakens something in Livy, something deep and addictive that she never knew existed-and that she fears only he can satisfy. But she senses that behind the fast cars, fancy suits, and posh apartment, he's aching inside. To have him, body and soul, she'll have to brave his dark secrets. Delving into his world and breaking down his defenses become her obsession-an obsession that could shatter her heart beyond repair . .

Good Potential but has one concerning flaw*SPOILER

There are negatives and positives in this series. This series broaches varying types of abuse and dysfunction and certainly flawed characters. Having said this, I’m okay with flawed characters and gritty material. My favourite books / characters have grit and flaws. However, little of the abuse is dealt with in a realistically positive way. There is extreme violence, which is actually a realistic response to certain events. However, there’s quite a lack of deeper psychologically realistic healing regarding childhood trauma and in regards to the traumatic event that occurs at the end of book one. The character personalities and flaws are well written which is a major positive. However, the lack of deeper character processing regarding overcoming and healing from trauma is quite lacking. This is also my concern with another of this author’s series but my concerns regarding the other series are minimal in comparison to my concerns regarding the One Night series. This is unfortunate because if the psychology of healing went deeper and was ‘fine tuned’ this series would be tremendous. I recognize this authors talents but some of the repetitive writing / explanation, a few holes in logic regarding the mystery aspect of the writing and the overly used terms of endearment also hindered the perfection of this series. Regardless, the series is worth exploring if you’re not overly concerned with a more thorough examination of healing from trauma in works of fiction. There is a lot of thought and talent poured into the writing and I do realize authors aren’t necessarily required to be psychologists but be forewarned regarding triggers. I do applaud authors who dare to dig deep. It’s just that, at times, they don’t dig deep enough. Dig a bit deeper in a realistic way regarding themes of overcoming adversity and a promising work will become a masterpiece.

Epilogue of book 3 has some of the deeper character processing that would have benefited book 1,2 and the main part of book 3.

The narrator was great.
