Description

An insomnia pandemic is sweeping the globe, leaving people unable to function and society on the brink of collapse....

Dr. Cooper Delaney believes he has the answer: Nocturnal, a new sleep-aid - one with absolutely no side-effects - which in early testing shows 100 percent effectiveness.

The only problem is, it doesn’t work. With no warning. No explanation.

Unable to accept the drug’s inexplicable failure and unwilling to concede to the competition, lines are crossed, ethical boundaries are pushed to the breaking point, and disturbing realizations come to light that could completely unravel civilization as we know it...and throw into question humanity’s place in the universe.

A jetset medical thriller meets sci-fi adventure with an unforgettable cast of characters, Percivious Insomnia presents an alternate history so compelling that it could possibly be true. The first book in the Percivious Trilogy from husband-wife author duo JJ Cook and AJ Cook, MD, Percivious Insomnia sets a unique and original course for fiction of the future, and paints a timely, prescient portrait of today’s globalized society...and what may exist beyond the realm of our current understanding.

Easly listen, needs refinement

Let's start by saying this narrator has such a smooth voice that it makes the book really easy to listen to. That being said, he doesn’t do "voices" so it's all at one level voice the whole way. I usually like when we can hear the different characters.

*I am not sure if I read the old or the re-released version*

This story is really interesting in the concept behind it. The author really excels at having that "twist" in the idea and enough science to make you think.

That being said, I feel like it this book could use some refinement. There are many POVs we pop into here, many convoluded backstories and room and personality descriptions that we go into that just aren't needed. We're juggling so much useless information at one time that the really interesting parts are getting buried and their importance is dulled down. The author seemed so connected with each individual and each situation that we head-hopped so they could show us each minor character's backstory and reason for being there, but you really only care about 3 of them.

From the chapter headings and intros, you are looking at a close 3rd POV, which slips in and out of head-hopping which may be an attempt at omniscient, but it would have been much stronger sticking to max 4 POVs and staying in close 3rd, because that's where the story is the strongest.

I'd definitely be interested in reading more books by this author for their imaginative concepts.
