About this listen

An Adepta Sororitas Audiobook

On a distant world, an obscure order of the Adepta Sororitas studies their founder's visions. They live in solitude… which is about to be broken as danger approaches.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Peter Fehervari brings a tale of an unusual order of the Sisters of Battle, a sister breaking her self-imposed exile, and an Astra Militarum unit seeking respite from their woes… and it's every bit as weird and wonderful as you'd hope.

THE STORY

The Adepta Sororitas of the Last Candle have stood vigil over their sanctuary world for centuries, striving to decipher their founder's tormented visions. Outsiders are unwelcome… yet still they come.

Decimated by an encounter with a lethal xenos entity, the survivors of an elite Astra Militarum company have journeyed to the Candleworld in search of healing, escorted by a woman who is no stranger there – Sister Hospitaller Asenath Hyades, who turned her back on the order decades ago.

As the seekers near the sect's bastion, malign forces begin to stir among the planet's storm-wracked spires, but the most insidious shadows lie in their own souls.

👌

Best Sisters of Battle story I have 'read' by far. Plenty of great Adeptas Sororitas characters that go beyond their typical characterization as 1 note zealots.

Only concern I would have going into it is that the story can be hard to follow. multiple pov characters , jumps back and forth between them frequently as well as shifting between timeliness.

Great book, probably the first time I have finished a black library book and wanted to immediately listen to it again.

Another 40k must-read

Peter Fehervari knocked it out of the park again. Part of the Dark coil series, it has the same themes as his other works (i.e. Fire Caste, another banger) with the same psychological twist to 40k that is rarely seen in other novels.
The narration work was perfect, the only thing I found lackluster being the parts with Shogo's voice work as it is overall a very small fraction of the narration, although his delivery is silky smooth and very appropriate for the work. Emma Gregory shows again that she's the queen of 40k VA's, with great voices/accents that pull you even more into the story.
A must-read if you prefer the human side of warhammer with good intrigue, like the Inquisition-themed books.

Fantastic horror story, but a little jumbled begining

loved the more grounded horror, hated the time travel elements, but in the end served the story

Better than I thought it would be

Not even a sororitas fan and I very much enjoyed this novel, great performance too.

Maybe the best thing in the Black Library?

I really cannot understate how wonderful this book is. The various plot threads are all equally compelling with characters who are screwed up & doomed in their own special ways. The narrator maintains a fantastic tone throughout the reading and every occaisional element of sound design adds tremendous value. The only real criticism I can level on this book (and the author in general, frankly) is that if someone read this as one of their first 40k novels I think it would give them wildly mismatched expectations for the rest of 40k.
