À propos de cet audio

#1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Soto crafts a lush, dark romantic fantasy that’s filled with intrigue, magic, and an irresistible enemies-to-lovers romance.

The war is over, the dark forces have won, and the hero who was supposed to save them is dead.

Captured as her castle is overrun by the enemy, the world as Briony Rosewood knows it is changed forever. Evil has won, and her people face imminent servitude, imprisonment, or death.

Stripped of her Magic and her freedom, Briony and the other survivors are quickly sold off to the highest bidders in an auction—and as Evermore's princess, she fetches the highest price. After a fierce bidding war, she’s sold to none other than Toven Hearst, scion of a family known for their cruelty.

Yet despite the horrors of her new world and the role she must learn to play within it, all is not lost. Help—and hope—may yet arise in the most unlikely of places…

The world building and the slow burn are both absolutely excellent here. I keep waiting for more but the crumbs are so worth it at very turn. Can’t wait for the rest of the series!!

The kind of story you can’t put down!

Dystopian fantasy slow burn. I love Julie Soto's regular romance books so even though I am not usually a fantasy reader I tried this one out and was not dissapointed. I am just so sad I'll have to wait until late 2026 to read the sequel since I'm dying to see what happens! I was completely absorbed the way I've been with all her books but the added bonus with this one vs her standard romance is the world building that she did a great job at.

I thought the narrator did a great job both in telling Briony's story and differentiating the voices. Sometimes I find narrator's voices distracting (especially when they're speaking for the opposite sex) but she did it with ease and helped add to the enjoyment of the story.

Just will read anything by Julie Soto

I very much enjoyed this book. the magic system is interesting, is not slightly confusing in its.... division... the characters feel real and well rounded.

The Love story is frustrating in what I found to be an endearing type of miscommunication trope.

There are a few areas near the beginning that dragged on longer than I thought necessary, but I was never bored and am very annoyed at how long I have to wait for the next one. I also immediately told several friends to read it.

caught me by surprise

I am so incredibly angry. I was unaware this was an unfinished trilogy and worse, only book one is written?!
This book is fantastic, top to bottom. The writing style, the character development, the magic system and world building (just enough!).
I wish I was exaggerating, but I am genuinely feeling so down now. I feel like I was ripped out of my home with no way back.

FURIOUS

(Trying to stay spoiler free) There were certain narrative elements that didn’t need to be so heavily relied on. In fact it would have created more room for the actual plot to be developed a lot more. The end also fell flat and uninteresting for me, almost predictable. I did appreciate that there were moments that drove the plot and gave us at least some payoff and there were some legitimately good plot points. I just feel it was under developed.

Had potential but ultimately fell flat for me.
