Zane was driving home from work when the world changed.
Thousands of dungeons spawned at once, taking up every inch of Earth—including the road he’s driving on. He wakes up to a totaled car and a broken leg, facing down a goblin trying to spear him through the guts. And that's just the start of it.
But to Zane’s surprise, he finds himself enjoying this brutal new world. While others cower and hide, he goes on the hunt. He unlocks a unique Berserker skill—the more damage he takes, the stronger he gets.
Soon he’s beating down monster hordes, solo clearing dungeons, unlocking powerful Skills, and striking out to conquer more and more.
It turns out Zane was born to fight. And in this new world rife with terrible monsters and awesome powers alike, where opportunity is anyone’s for the taking, he’ll thrive.
An action-packed blend of LitRPG Apocalypse and Xianxia with 2 million views on Royalroad. Perfect for fans of Defiance of the Fall, The Primal Hunter, and Road to Mastery!

Second, story started off a bit shaky, and the inclusion of ex GF and High school bully tropes so early plus some tropey dialogue made me nearly not take the author seriously. However, it gets better, and you can forget those earlier scenes as the story progresses and other characters are included. After finishing the book, I think those characters aren’t even mentioned again which makes me think, he could have completely cut those scenes and given the story a way better first impression.
Third, this might not be authors fault, might be my warped perspective after listening to Defiance of the fall, but it seems like skills, laws and power comes a bit too easily to the MC. I suspect the author knows what he’s doing as it is hinted at different characters having unique talents, but it’s honestly a little jarring seeing him grasp so much power so fast without making him go through unimaginable agony and sacrifice. Like I said, might be a warped perspective from reading DOTF before this. In the author’s defence. There are other superpowers who are above him.
Lastly, I’d really appreciate even more character dialogue. I’m getting worn out by descriptions of what was said rather than just having characters say it to each other. I think the author is not as bad as others, and maybe it’s the genre, but I think there’s room for improvement.
Anyway, Onward to book 2!
A decent fast paced opening to an okay story.

The bland writing even affects how the Narrator sounds at times. Hearing Christian Gilliland say stuff like 'sick' or 'swag' unironically makes me cringe a little. He is a fantastic Narrator, but this book would have done better with someone younger sounding with a little bit more life in the reading, especially during fight scenes.
The book lacks an identity.
